Because of the contradiction. Because of that reason, it must be assumed that consciousness and object do not have a relationship of arising from each other. Realists think so (95). If so, then for eye consciousness and so on, forms and other objects should not appear, because the two have no relationship. Appearance is because it is its own nature, or because it arises from it. If not, then it should also not appear, like dreams and unseen objects. Furthermore, just as eye consciousness cannot hear sounds and tongue consciousness cannot see colors. For that reason, Naropa's Condensed View also says: These phenomena that appear and exist are not separate from self-aware mind, because they are apparent and clear, like self-aware experience. If it is not the mind, it should not appear because there is no relationship. In this way, one can master the conventional. So it is said. The third is: Therefore, realize that it is not from that. So it is said. Because of the reason just stated, how these external objects appear does not establish a true object other than the inner consciousness. This certainty also arises from the habitual mind of beginningless habit, the object of one's own conceptual thought, like the awareness of recognizing a lotus, clearly appears in one's own mind, and like a (96) vase in the mind of another person that has no connection with it, one does not appear. How do tiny indivisible particles and vast mountain forests appear? By the meaning of reason and intellect, there is no true object established outside the mind, Brahma and others, within the scope of power, pervader, self, and dust, etc., are not the creators, and realize that those are all appearances of the mind, not real things. In the Sutra of Manjushri's Play, it says: Son of God, Lotus Play, playing, said to Manjushri: Are the external objects made by the maker? How should we look at it? Manjushri said: Son of God, these external objects are not made by the maker, but appear because of the power of the habit of mental discrimination has increased. The son of God said: How does habit increase? Mountains and

How could solid and dense things like the ocean and the sun appear? Manjushri said: It is possible for it to appear like this due to the power of increased conceptualization. For example, in the great city of Varanasi, an old woman meditated on her body as a tiger. As a result, all the people in the city saw her as a tiger (97), and everyone fled, turning the city into an empty city. Some monks meditated on their bodies as impure, and as a result, they saw decaying and putrid beings. If these things can appear like this even for a short time, then why wouldn't they appear with the increase of beginningless habits? And so on, it was widely taught. Fourth, mind and objects are not truly existent. It is said that, what kind of relationship do you think exists between the sixth consciousness, the mind, and the phenomena that appear as its objects? It is like the habits of daytime memories, when one is overcome by sleep, are experienced in the realm of dreams as if they were seen and heard vividly, which is not false. Similarly, the habit of the mind, the memory of a pot arising earlier, although it disappears at that moment, the subsequent conceptual thought continuously focuses on it again and again. Without examination, one clings to the truth of the object, thinking, "This is a pot." Other than the mind, there is no separate, truly established object of phenomena. Just as in a dream, various appearances manifest even though not a single particle is established. The habits of the pot, its characteristics, and the arising of true clinging to it are all momentary in nature. Third, revealing that the mind is unborn is divided into two parts: the actual and (98) establishing it with scriptural proof. The first part is: Like that, and so on, non-dual. It is said that, if external objects are not truly established, is the internal consciousness established or not? It is not established. For example, the term "this mountain" is relative to "that mountain." Similarly, consciousness is relative to the object of knowledge. If there is no object to be grasped, then the grasping consciousness is also not established. As it is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization: If the object to be grasped has no self-nature, then what do you want to grasp? Thus, those grasping consciousnesses are empty in their essence. As Nagarjuna also said: If there is no grasping, there is no grasper. If there is no grasper, there is no consciousness. Therefore,
