Not only that, but the Self-Arisen One also thought so. At that time, all the Tathagatas gathered in the assembly, as well as the wise Bodhisattvas such as Vajragarbha, were very surprised by this statement, unlike others, and were filled with doubt. They fainted without thought and fell to the ground. This is provisional meaning. At that time, because the co-emergent manifested, the duality of grasper and grasped did not waver, and they entered the state of great wisdom, which is the ultimate meaning of fainting and falling. If asked, why show fainting etc. in the provisional meaning? First, "joy is the form of going" refers to being associated with changing conceptual thought. Similarly, supreme joy also becomes contaminated because it is focused on pleasure. The joy of joylessness is also associated with conceptual thought, so it is also the form of going. Therefore, they said that these three do not have co-emergence. Previously, it was said that all dharmas are pervaded by co-emergence, and these two became points of doubt. The ultimate meaning of these is that the realm is the order of conceptual thoughts of the Bodhi mind. The conceptual thoughts of the aggregates and sense bases are the Tathagata and great compassion, etc. Becoming extremely surprised is joy, which is desire. Fainting is supreme joy, which is ignorance. Falling is joylessness, which is hatred. These three are associated with afflictions, so they are not co-emergent. These three conceptual thoughts are not without conceptual thought. Second, the Bhagavan said, "Completely abandoned." The Bhagavan, in order to dispel their hesitation, taught: the Hevajra of non-dual skillful means and wisdom, the union of the single body of the indestructible three vajras of all Buddhas, (319) the ultimate co-emergent, in order for other disciples, the great Bodhisattva Vajragarbha, to understand, completely dispelling doubts, is to say that the co-emergent does not have the desire of supreme joy, nor does it have the non-desire of joylessness. Nor is it the object of the conceptual thought of the first joy of the Middle Way other than those two. Therefore, because the conceptual thoughts of these three joys are abandoned, the co-emergent

Since beginningless time, defilements have ceased and been purified, and the great bliss of immutability has been fully understood and realized, therefore it is called manifest enlightenment of luminosity. Since enlightenment exists in the nature of all dharmas, how can one doubt that it does not exist in the three joys? Or, from the perspective of the basis of the spoken terms, the coemergent enlightenment itself is the nature of all three joys, because their pure nature is it. Or, from the perspective of the path of realization, because these three are associated with defilements and are impure, all three joys abandon and are separated from the coemergent enlightenment. There is no contradiction in saying this. The coemergent should also be regarded as the first or previous symbol of joylessness, where the channels have shifted and the bliss has declined, and it is the complete abandonment of the conceptual thoughts of the previous three joys. That is, it symbolizes the first joylessness. Regarding "symbolizing the first joylessness," according to Jetsun Maitripa, the coemergent is explained as symbolizing the end of supreme joy and the beginning of joylessness. And Pal Naropa considers the fourth coemergent to be the symbol that abandons what exists in the beginning of joylessness. Both of these agree that the three related to the conceptual thoughts of joy must be completely abandoned. The Self-Arisen One said, "Or, completely abandoning all grasper and grasped, however, from the perspective of symbolization, it also symbolizes the beginning of joylessness, that is, the nature of non-conceptualization and non-confusion, and the three joys have been completely abandoned." The third is, from the beginning it is said, "Accomplished through..." If this is combined with self-blessing, then through the practice of the completion stage of the sequence of four joys or four emptinesses, the initial sign is like a cloud or smoke, which refers to being like the moon covered by a thin obscuration, or knowing that things are impermanent. Then, the sign of slight accomplishment is that all things appear like illusions, even though there is no mental fabrication. After that, the state of being unable to distinguish between falling asleep and waking up, being constantly like a dream, with no difference between object and subject, in equipoise, the illusory body during the day and the luminosity at night, will eventually transform into the surrounding environment. Finally, the supreme accomplishment, the union of inseparable bliss and emptiness, the sign of the great seal.
