This is the narration of the names of the tiger. The first part has three aspects: the way of looking and the combination of wind, the substance to rely on, and the method of control. The first of these has three aspects: the essence of the way of looking and the combination of wind, the standard and time of its accomplishment, and its necessity, including what should be learned. The first part is "from equality, to become stiff," as it is said. When a yogi who has gained stability in the generation stage and is proficient in wind performs actions through the way of looking, the eyes are not crooked to the left or right, but are equal and even. (338) With an untamed way of looking, possessing an angry mind towards the object to be subdued, looking straight at the forehead, when that moment arrives, it is said that one always accomplishes the task of defeating and killing the enemy. With the intention of controlling others, and that way of looking, like squinting at the object to be subdued located on the left side. Looking from the left side, the image of the object to be subdued appears in both eyeballs, thereby controlling it. With the intention of actually attracting, directing the gaze of both eyes towards the right side, thereby attracting. Again, slightly turning both eyeballs upwards, from above also causing the two images of the object to be subdued to appear in both eyeballs, and then looking again towards the right side as before. Impartial, neither to the left nor to the right, neither up nor down, but looking straight at the center, this is the way of looking that makes one stiff, which is to look with both eyeballs at the center of the tip of the nose, and to focus on the image of the object to be subdued appearing there. (339) Here, four ways of looking are mentioned, namely defeating, controlling, attracting, and stiffening, and there are slightly different ways of explaining their identification, etc. These ways of looking must also be coordinated with the combination of wind. That is to say, by coordinating with the exhalation (Tibetan: རེ་ཙ་ཀ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: रेचक, Sanskrit Romanization: recaka, Chinese literal meaning: exhalation) of breathing out from both nostrils, one defeats. By inhaling from the outside in, one controls by coordinating with the breath-holding (Tibetan: ཀུམྦྷ་ཀ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: कुम्भक, Sanskrit Romanization: kumbhaka, Chinese literal meaning: pot) accompanied by sound. By coordinating with the inhalation (Tibetan: པཱུ་ར་ཀ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: पूरक, Sanskrit Romanization: puraka, Chinese literal meaning: filling) filling the breath like a pot and binding it immovably, one attracts. By coordinating with the fourth state of wind naturally abiding, called tranquility (Tibetan: ཤཱནྟི་ཀ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: शान्तिक, Sanskrit Romanization: shantika, Chinese literal meaning: peaceful), one stiffens. For the latter, the Self-Arisen Foot (Tibetan: རང་བྱུང་ཞབས་) said it is "worn down." The second part is "moist barley, inconceivable," as it is said. Looking

and also the degree of accomplishment through the combination of posture and wind. If one repeatedly practices the posture of causing a moist tree with its fruits to fall, and eventually, just by making the posture, that tree or its fruits can fall to the ground, that is accomplishment. Similarly, for (340) fragrant flowers of trees and the like, if by making the posture they immediately turn this way, that is said to be a great accomplishment. If a vajra tree, that is, a sandalwood tree, or one that is like a corner vajra, or a hard tree, immediately bends upon making the posture, that itself is the accomplishment of bending. For grass, a small object moved by the wind, having practiced the posture of making it still, if it does not move immediately upon being looked at, that is accomplishment. Therefore, one should acquire the heat that can accomplish the task. Master Bhava Bhadra said: For falling, meditate on the black “ཕཊ་” (Tibetan, फट, phaṭ, destroying); for control, meditate on the red “ཧོ༔” (Tibetan, हौः, hauḥ, exclamation); for bending, meditate on the red “ཧི” (Tibetan, हि, hi, driving) or “ཛ” (Tibetan, जः, jaḥ, birth); for stillness, meditate on the yellow “ལཾ” (Tibetan, लँ, laṃ, earth) or “ཧཱུྃ” (Tibetan, हुं, hūṃ, seed syllable). One should meditate on each of these for the respective tasks to be accomplished. Like this, after becoming accustomed to the yoga and wind vajra recitation, etc., for six months, by applying it to the task, it will be accomplished, there is no doubt about this. However, one should not be mistaken as to whether this cause and effect will be accomplished or not. Because the power of the miraculous abilities spoken of by the Buddhas is inconceivable. These four postures (341) and others, such as the postures of animals, are also spoken of extensively in the Sambuta, but one should understand only a part of them. The third is, starting from the posture, "will not be found," it is said. As mentioned above, after having well accomplished these four root postures, one who is skilled in applying them to tasks should lead beings who are difficult to tame onto the path shown through skillful means. However, unless one sees a great meaning or obtains the five superknowledges, one should not rely on this lineage of activities for immediately killing enemies and other sentient beings. If one does so, it contradicts the vows of the Buddhas, which are to benefit sentient beings, and one will certainly degenerate, incurring the fourth root downfall and falling into the lower realms. If that is the case, is it not permissible in any way? If one abandons thoughts and actions that harm sentient beings and deceive this life and the next, then, if it is meaningful for the next life and this life, one should act with a mind of compassion.
