Because it does not truly exist as something other. All the conventional appearances that arise in the perception of sentient beings arise from the imprints of delusion. However, in order to refute the view that "self" and "lord" etc. are agents, the Victorious One (Buddha) said that aggregates, elements, and sense bases etc. composed of subtle particles, external objects, seem to exist with their own characteristics. But it should be understood that this was said according to his intention. As it is said in the Commentary on the Bodhicitta, "In order to reverse the clinging to self, aggregates, elements, etc. are taught." That is the meaning. Secondly, as stated in "self and". As it is said, some of the self-schools, such as the Sthavira and Vātsīputrīya, rely on the sutras that say, "Monks, there is a burden. The bearer of the burden is the person," and assert an inexpressible self of the person, which is not reasonable. Because, self and person etc. are merely imputed names fabricated by conceptual thought, and there is not even a particle of true substance. If it exists, then if that self exists on the side of liberation, then all sentient beings will be liberated without effort; or, if it exists on the side of samsara, then there will be the fault that sentient beings will not be liberated from samsara. As shown in the Ornament of the Sutras, "The person exists only as an imputation, what is said is not a substance." etc. Thirdly, as stated in "those etc. as taught by". As it is said, those mentioned above, namely: the Vaibhāṣikas believe that external objects are truly existent; the Sautrāntikas believe that although external objects are not truly existent, the appearances of their own time are appearances of mind and are truly existent; the Cittamatrins believe that, like the appearances of dreams, they are not other than mind, therefore the self-awareness and self-illumination of mind are truly existent; the Madhyamikas believe that mind is also not truly existent; and the Great Madhyamikas believe that not only is it a negation of mere negation, but the non-dual wisdom of union that is liberated from the four extremes, the self-awareness of each is the only correct meaning, etc. In short, all appearances of existence and non-existence are in the mind (139) merely appearances of phenomena, and are not established by their own nature. Therefore, the order of abandoning the stains of the two graspings to be abandoned, and generating the wisdom of realizing the antidote of non-duality, should also be understood as taught by the wise men of the past. That's all.
