The first part is: “Similarly, sixty.” Thus it is said, the right hand, similarly, the three large joints of the left hand's water element have three wheels of the fire element, the hip, knee, and ankle of the right foot, these three large joints of the fire element have three wheels of the water element. Like the previous right foot, the three large joints of the left foot's wind element have wheels of the earth element. Thus, the twelve pulse wheels of the large joints, each with thirty pulse petals, add up to three hundred and sixty pulse petals. The second part is: “Finger joints, etc., are equal to one foot.” The forty-five finger joints of the left hand and foot also have six pulse petals, so adding up the sixty wheels of the small joints, the number of pulses is the same as the large joints, also three hundred and sixty. Therefore, externally there are three hundred and sixty days of twelve months, internally there are three hundred and sixty pulses, and furthermore, the body mandala has three hundred and sixty deities, the three hundred and sixty letters of vowels and consonants, etc., are all pure. Wind and bodhicitta are also said to be in accordance with this number, so that is sufficient. Fifth, explaining the pulses that cause disease, divided into two parts: the actual explanation and the elimination of doubts. The first part is: “Disease from... to fifty-six.” Thus it is said, how many pulses in the body cause disease? The four pulses outside the crown wheel, the forehead, that is, the sixteen pulses outside the crown wheel, these twenty pulses cause Bekan disease, because Bekan is of the nature of water, so it stays above but sinks down, therefore the waist and other places will ache. The thirty-two pulses in the throat and the eight pulses in the heart, these forty pulses cause Tripa disease, because Tripa is located in the middle, connected to the sun, so it is a helper of burning, connected to the moon, so it is a helper of coolness, therefore it will ache everywhere above and below. The pulse of the navel
