For those who see (Buddha-nature) but are established as not having eyes, what are the four? They are: ordinary beings, hearers, solitary realizers, and bodhisattvas who have newly entered the Mahayana. As it is said: "World Honored One, this essence of the Tathagatagarbha is not the realm of those who fall into the view of the perishable aggregate, those who delight in perverted views, and those whose minds are distracted by emptiness." Thus it is said. Fourth, explaining the reason for lineage is divided into two: questioning by way of dispelling doubts, and answering that question. The first is: Like clouds, like dreams, like illusions, all knowable things are empty in every way. Having said this, why do the Buddhas again say here that sentient beings have Buddha-nature? Thus it is said. That is to say, in the intermediate teachings, all dharmas are like impermanent clouds, unreal dreams, and illusions that are aggregates of causes and conditions but without inherent existence, and so on. But here, it is said that what has always existed immutably is permanent, that what exists by its own nature is empty, and that what is not produced by causes and conditions is shown to be unconditioned. How can these be contradictory? In order to dispel the doubts of those of inferior intelligence, the answer is: This essence of the Tathagatagarbha is also empty because it is empty of faults and conditioned things, but it is not empty in the sense of abandoning its own qualities. It has the characteristic of being differentiated, the realm is empty of adventitious defilements, it has the characteristic of being undifferentiated, it is not empty of the unsurpassed Dharma. As has been said before. The second is the answer to that question: The ultimate limit of reality, the realm of naturally pure essence, is unconditioned like the sky. The karma, afflictions, and the happiness and suffering of samsara that depend on it appear like clouds. Among them, afflictions are painful due to improper attention, like clouds. Karma is without inherent existence but appears, like the nature of a dream. The aggregates produced by afflictions and karma appear like illusions and emanations. Therefore, it acts as an antidote to the extreme clinging to the self. After that, five faults arise, such as clinging to emptiness as an extreme view. In order to eliminate these faults, the realm of ultimate truth

It is said that the essence of the departed is taught. The true limit is that all aspects of conditioned things are empty. Afflictions, karma, and the ripening fruit are spoken of like clouds and so on. Afflictions are like clouds, karma is like enjoyment in a dream. The ripening of afflictions and karma is like an illusion. Having established it in this way before, again in this guru lineage, in order to abandon the five faults, it is taught that there is a realm. Thus it is said. What are the five faults? Discouragement, despising inferior sentient beings, not grasping the truth, slandering the true Dharma. Whatever five faults we have remaining, they are spoken of in order to abandon them. That is, because one does not see the essence of enlightenment in oneself, one is discouraged, thinking that one like me cannot attain Buddhahood, and therefore does not generate the mind of enlightenment. Even if one generates it, one thinks that I am a Bodhisattva and others are ordinary beings, despising sentient beings, thereby hindering the attainment of higher paths. Because of clinging to emptiness as an extreme, one does not enter the Dharma realm of ultimate reality, and therefore does not grasp the truth. Falling into permanence and annihilation, one slanders the true Dharma. Because one does not see oneself and sentient beings as equal, the fault of clinging to self and others arises. Thus, because one has not heard this, due to the fault of despising oneself, some people's minds are discouraged and the mind of enlightenment will not arise. Whoever has generated the mind of enlightenment, if he boasts that he is superior, he will strongly generate the idea of inferiority towards those who have not generated the mind of enlightenment. One who thinks in this way will not generate true wisdom, therefore he does not grasp the truth, and he will not realize the true meaning. Because it is false and temporary, the fault of sentient beings is not true. The truth is selflessness, the qualities are pure in nature. Clinging to the fault of untruth, slandering the true Dharma, the wise will not see themselves and sentient beings equally, and will not attain loving-kindness. Thus it is said. If one knows that such a realm is spontaneously present in oneself and others, one will know that there is no difficulty in accomplishing the liberation of one's own mind, and therefore one will rejoice and respect all sentient beings as if they were Buddhas, benefiting them on the basis of not harming or injuring them, and the wisdom of realizing the ultimate reality.
