Like a womb, they believe that life arises suddenly, and that self and happiness and suffering exist until death, but are cut off after death. These are called: Pūrvapa, Lokāyata, and Cārvāka. Thus, in the tenets of the outsiders, if divided, there are three hundred and sixty wrong views, namely, one hundred and twenty each for the views of permanence, annihilation, and both. If condensed, there are sixty-two views, and if further condensed, there are two views of permanence and annihilation. As stated in the Compendium of Views: 'As in the view of the aggregation of destruction, sixty-two views are gathered.' Thus it is. Among them, there are twenty who hold to permanence, twenty who hold to annihilation, and twenty-two who hold to both. For details, see the Brahma Net Sutra and the Extensive Wisdom Sutra. Here, these divisions are explained so that people will recognize the wrong path and not enter it. I think that the refutation has actually been done, but I have not elaborated in detail for fear of the complexity of the words. Now, the tenets of the insiders are widely divided into two: the way of surpassing the outsiders, and the detailed distinctions. The first is that if one holds the Three Jewels as refuge and accepts the four seals of Dharma, one is an insider; if one does not accept them, one is an outsider. Among them, the nature of the refuge is determined as follows: According to the Lesser Vehicle, the Buddha is like the supreme Buddha Shakyamuni's emanation, the Dharma has the nature of both scripture and realization, and the Sangha includes the four entrants and three abiders of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Abiding in the fruit of Arhatship is included in the category of Buddha. The four entrants are: Stream-enterer, Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat-enterer. The three abiders are: abiding in the fruit of Stream-enterer, Once-returner, and Non-returner. According to the Great Vehicle practitioners, the Buddha has the nature of the three bodies, the Dharma is the teachings belonging to the Sutras and Tantras, and the views such as the generation stage and completion stage, and the nature of the wisdom of realizing one's own awareness, such as meditation. The Sangha is the noble learners and non-learners, Bodhisattvas different from the Buddha, and Vidyadharas, etc. These are also divided into two types of refuge: cause and effect. Among them, just like asking for a send-off, aiming at the fruit, requesting the Buddha as a guide, requesting the Dharma as a path, and requesting the Sangha as a companion on the path of practice.

Therefore, taking refuge is the refuge of the cause. In order to obtain these three jewels in one's own continuum in the future, taking refuge with the goal of the result is the refuge of the result. From the perspective of targeting both cause and result, it is named as such. The detailed classification of these has been determined in my treatise, the Great Definitive Chariot, so please refer to it. The four seals of the Dharma are: all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, all contaminated phenomena are suffering, all phenomena are empty and without self, and all nirvana is peaceful. Among these, all conditioned phenomena that arise from causes and conditions are impermanent, because they arise immediately and do not remain in the second moment, so they are called impermanent. As it says in the Collection of Specially Expressed Verses: Alas! Conditioned phenomena are impermanent. All contaminated phenomena, represented by samsara, do not go beyond the nature of the cause and effect of suffering. As it says: Those contaminated phenomena are suffering, compounding, and afflicted. In particular, samsara is suffering. As it says in the Vinaya Sutra: Sentient beings in hell are tormented by the fires of hell, hungry ghosts are tormented by hunger and thirst, animals are tormented by eating each other, humans are tormented by wandering everywhere, Asuras are tormented by fighting and arguing, and gods are tormented by carelessness. Even if samsara is only the size of a needlepoint, there is never any happiness. Thus. All phenomena encompassed by appearance and existence, the outer and inner worlds, samsara and nirvana, are without self, because they have no inherent nature. As it says in the Explanation of the Awakening Mind: Just as the nature of fire is heat, and the nature of sugarcane is sweetness, similarly, the nature of all phenomena is said to be emptiness. Thus. Nirvana is cessation and peace. As it says in the Collection of Specially Expressed Verses: Therefore, peace is happiness. And as it says in the Biography of the One Born in an Iron House: Even hearing the Dharma that leads to the peace of nirvana has not been done. Thus. These are explained in detail in all vehicles. The detailed classification of individual vehicles has two types: the vehicle of the nature of cause and the vehicle of the result, the secret mantra. The first is further divided into two types: the general classification of philosophical tenets and the individual classification of the way of practicing the path. The first is divided into two vehicles: the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle.
