Even if the kalpas decline, life spans are still countless. They consume nectar as food and radiate light. They travel with miraculous feet, barely touching the ground. Therefore, the practice tantras are practiced during the time of the three qualities. After that, due to clinging to enjoyment, the nectar food diminishes, and they eat the essence of the earth. Because there is only a faint light, the yoga tantras are practiced during the time of the two qualities. After that, because there are no miracles and no essence, they eat rice. Because the characteristics of male and female appear, the unsurpassed is taught when strife arises. As stated in the Tantra of the Assembly of All Deities: "The perfect age is the first action tantra, the three-fold age is the second practice tantra, the two-fold age is the third yoga tantra, and the strife-filled age is the fourth unsurpassed tantra. Considering these four times, the tantras are taught in four ways." Also, as stated in the Ornament of the Cemetery: "The perfect, three, and two ages, and the four times of strife, the tantras are also taught in four ways: action, practice, yoga, and unsurpassed yoga." Fourth, considering the four ways in which attachment, the object of purification, arises, the four tantras are taught. That is, in the perfect age, afflictive emotions and attachment are less, and they are satisfied by merely looking at each other. Therefore, the action tantra is taught for this purpose. The deities look at each other, as stated in the Vajra Pinnacle: "Placed on a white cloth, the deities of the mandala, the male looks at the female, and the female looks at the male." Also, as stated in the Empowerment Tantra of Vajrapani: "In the center, draw the Bhagavan Avalokiteshvara, and to his left, draw a woman dressed in white looking at the Bhagavan." Also, as stated in the Manifest Enlightenment of Vairochana: "The five goddesses of the five families are drawn on the sides of the five Buddhas." It is also said, "The Bhagavan looks at the woman in white." Therefore, all the deities of the action tantra appear with open eyes. In the age of the three qualities, attachment arises that is satisfied by laughter. Therefore, the practice tantra is taught for this purpose. As stated in the Manifest Enlightenment of Vairochana: "The protector with a matted hair topknot, and the goddess on his left side, draw with a slight smile." Also, "Vairochana, the great king, with a slightly smiling face.

Therefore, all the deities of the Action Tantra appear with smiling faces. When two are together, they touch and embrace each other, generating a desire for satisfaction, and for this reason, the Yoga Tantra is taught. The Supreme First Tantra says, "All the deities in the mandala hold their arms tightly together." The Vajra Peak Tantra says, "The goddess Vajra makes a sound, embracing her own goddess, looking around with a smile, embracing the feet of the Bhagavan." Therefore, all the deities of the Yoga Tantra appear in connection with mudras. In the age of strife, the desire for the actual union of the two senses arises, and for this reason, the Anuttara Yoga is taught. The Two Examinations Tantra says, "Joining the penis with the vagina, the bliss there is particularly supreme." The Guhyasamaja Tantra says, "Through the union of the two senses, all things should be examined." The Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara says, "Praising the two sexual organs, the mantra practitioner unites with the dakini." Therefore, all the deities of the Anuttara Yoga Tantra appear in the form of yab-yum in union. As the Lamp Illuminating says, "For the sake of a person with desire, his action is Vajrasattva." The Secret Reality says, "With the division of the four times, the tantras are taught in four ways: smiling, looking, and holding hands, whatever two embrace, thus there are four tantras." According to the order of people, the order of the gods of desire is also established. In Paranirmitavasavartin and so on, one is satisfied by looking; in Nirmanarati and so on, one practices being satisfied by smiling; in Tushita and so on, Yoga is satisfied by embracing; below the Thirty-Three, the union of the two senses is Anuttara Yoga. The Two Examinations Tantra says, "Looking, smiling, holding hands, embracing, and the union of two, etc., the tantras are also taught in four ways." The Sambuta Tantra says, "Looking, smiling, holding hands, whatever two embrace, like a moth to a flame, the tantras are taught in four ways." Fifth, in order to grasp the four deities who follow the four perverted views, the four classes of tantras are taught, the deluded one is Brahma.
