His disciples, their language is a distorted form of Apabhraṃśa, similar to that of meat-eaters. The sewn patches are more than nine and less than twenty-one, appearing upwards except in pairs. The symbol is a conch shell. Those revered by many include the division of the earth-proclaiming lineage, the division of protectors, and the division of the dwelling mother, these three. These are those who have renounced from the butcher caste, called the noble Ānanda. The disciples of the one who was praised as the best among the Vinaya holders, speak the language of the Piśāca meat-eaters, similar to the gods of the Pure Abode. The sewn patches of the robe are similar to those of the elders, and the symbol is the appearance of a conch shell. The first compilation is that the Arhats, abiding in meditative equipoise, compiled and taught with their minds; the second is that they taught by speaking; and the last is that they compiled what was spoken by writing it on books. Regarding the nature of the Buddha's words and treatises, the well-spoken is the aspect of the Buddha's words, the explanation of the intention is the aspect of the treatises, the difference between the Buddha's words and treatises, and the manner of how to speak and listen, these four. The first has five. The definition is that from the self-cause of the speaker, the teacher Buddha, whatever appears as names, words, and letters, and exists in the Sutra or Tantra class. Its object is to teach the three trainings, its expression is immaculate language and words, its proof is that it possesses three valid cognitions, and its result is that it is virtuous in the beginning, middle, and end, this is its nature. As Maitreya says: "Declaring the three trainings, language and words are without defilement, possessing three valid cognitions, virtuous in the beginning, middle, and end, this is the Buddha's word, greatly spoken by the Victorious Ones, the opposite should be known as other treatises." The three trainings are the training in ethics, the training in concentration, and the training in wisdom. The three valid cognitions are direct perception, inference, and scriptural authority. The example is that which appears as the words of the teacher, the aspect of names, words, and letters that appear in the mind-consciousness of the disciples to be trained. That is, those that appear in the form of prose or verses in the Sutras or Tantras, from the devotion of the retinue, from the blessings of the teacher who teaches the Dharma that is in accordance with the capacity of the disciples to be trained, like a sound image, it does not exist in meaning in name, but appears in various ways, as it is said in the Uttaratantra: "Like the sound of a sound image, it arises from the consciousness of others." Thus it is taught. Here, the distinction of the Śrāvakayāna is

Those who speak consider its essence to be a collection of names, gathered by the listeners, and encompassed by non-associated compositional factors. However, the Sutra School believes its essence to be a collection of words, gathered by the speakers, and encompassed by the form aggregate. Yet, here, due to the gathering of the teacher and retinue, the essence appears as names, words, and letters, primarily gathered by afflicted consciousness, and possessing the aspects of both form and compositional aggregates. It is established by "arising from other discriminations," and so forth. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha, "The eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma, all spoken by the Buddha, are either words or names, and are all included in form or compositional factors." Thus it is taught. If classified, there are five types. From the perspective of essence, there are two types: the Dharma of scripture and the Dharma of realization, as stated in that very text: "The Teacher's sacred Dharma has two aspects: the nature of scripture and realization. It is only those who uphold, speak, and practice it." The Dharma of scripture is the twelve divisions of scripture, as stated in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses: "Sutras, songs, prophecies, verses, self-utterances, similes, such as the Jatakas and extensive explanations, wonders, Vaipulya, and definitive statements, these are the twelve divisions of scripture." The Dharma of realization refers to the grounds, paths, samadhis, and special realizations that reside in the minds of noble beings, both learners and non-learners. From the perspective of time, there are the three turnings of the Dharma wheel. Among them, for the initial practitioners, in order to protect the mind from the afflictions bound by the self-grasping of subject and object, the order of adopting and abandoning antidotes is mainly taught, which is the category of the Four Noble Truths; in the middle, to refute attachment to the antidotes, non-characteristicness is taught; and finally, the way things exist as they are is taught, which is the category of the definitive meaning of reality. From the perspective of faculties, there are the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Unsurpassed Vehicle. As stated in the "Nomenclature of the Three Vows": "Through the three vehicles, there is definite emergence; through one vehicle, one abides in the result." And so on. From the perspective of the condition of the owner,
