The capable one is certain to be liberated from all obscurations. Thus it is. The term 'subsequent' refers to the equipoise that does not waver from the Dharmakaya for one's own benefit. The activities for the benefit of others that arise from that state are referred to as subsequent attainment. As it is said in the Uttaratantra, 'The cause of being free from the two obscurations is the two wisdoms, non-conceptualization and its subsequent attainment, which is considered wisdom.' Although this is stated with regard to mere terminology, it is always unwavering from equipoise. As it is said in the Konchok Tsekpa, 'Even when an elephant is sitting, it is in equipoise. Even when an elephant is resting, it is in equipoise. Even when an elephant is sleeping, it is in equipoise.' Thus it is established. Second, refuting objections has two parts. If it is argued that since the object of knowledge of suchness, the nature of phenomena, is impossible, the wisdom that sees it is impossible, because the Vajracchedika says, 'The nature of phenomena is not an object of knowledge; it cannot be known,' the answer is that although it is said that the nature of phenomena is not an object of knowledge that is established in its own right, it is known because it is the object of the wisdom of individual self-awareness, which is inexpressible, inconceivable, and free from extremes. As Nagarjuna praises the Mother, 'Prajnaparamita, beyond speech, thought, and expression, unborn and unceasing, the very nature of space, the object of the wisdom of individual self-awareness, to the Mother of the Buddhas of the three times, I pay homage.' Thus it is said. If it is argued that since the object of knowledge of suchness, the impure, self-characterized, is impossible, the wisdom that sees it is impossible, the answer is that although there is no truth, there is falsehood, so it is known. If it is argued that since the limits of knowable objects, the number of sentient beings, and the beginning and end of samsara are impossible, the wisdom that sees them is impossible, the answer is that since the Buddhas have promised to know the existing knowable objects, what does not exist is not a knowable object, so it is not seen, like the horns of a rabbit. In the commentary on the Uttaratantra, it is said, 'Although it is without beginning, it has an end.' Therefore, those who have attained complete purity have purified their subsequent afflictions, which is well known. Third, the activity of benefiting others is that from the state of the Sambhogakaya, the Nirmanakaya benefits beings, and as long as samsara exists, it will continuously appear as desired. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara, 'Likewise, as long as samsara exists, its activity is considered to be continuous.'

Thus it is. Furthermore, in the Uttaratantra it says: 'Due to the power of others, arising of renunciation, and seeing oneself and sentient beings as equal, because the deeds are not completely fulfilled, as long as samsara exists, the deeds will not cease.' Thus it is. How is it? Knowing the faculties of sentient beings, and by what to tame them, the means of taming activities, and when to tame them, without any error, thereby accomplishing benefit. In that itself it says: 'The realm of those to be tamed and the means of taming, the activities of those to be tamed by the realm of those to be tamed, and going to that place and time, the pervasive lord constantly abides in spontaneous accomplishment.' Thus it is. How does it abide in spontaneous accomplishment? It should be understood by nine similes, in that itself it says: 'Like Indra's drum and clouds, Brahma, sun, jewel, wish-fulfilling gem king, sound, reflection, sky, earth, until the end of existence, effortlessly accomplishing the benefit of others, this is the lineage of yogis. The precious lord of gods appears and shows, skillfully teaching like the drum of gods. The pervasive lord's wisdom and great compassion cloud masses, boundless beings pervade up to the peak of existence. Like Brahma, without moving from the stainless state, he shows various emanations. Like the sun, the light of wisdom radiates, a pure jewel like a wish-fulfilling gem heart. The speech of the Buddhas, like an echo in the mountains, is without letters. The body is like the sky, pervasive and without form, it is eternal. Like the earth, for the white beings, of all the medicine of Dharma, in all aspects, the basis, is the earth of the Buddha.' Thus it is. Thus, the spontaneously accomplished activity is also, in whatever realm of beings, there is whatever fortune, in that place, all at once appearing like the sun. In that itself it says: 'Why is it that in all the pure water vessels of those to be tamed, the image of the Sugata's sun, countless ones appear all at once?' Thus it is. That also follows the minds of those to be tamed, in that itself it says: 'Just as on a pure beryl ground, the image of the body of the lord of gods appears, so on the pure ground of sentient beings' minds, the image of the body of the Sage's lord appears. The ability to manifest images in beings is due to the absence of defilement, and the power to freely enter into the defiled mind.' Thus, the activity of appearance, such as the Buddha teaching the Dharma, is also taming.
