Appearances arise from one's own actions. As it says in that very text: 'Just as the sounds of drums of the gods within the heavens arise from their own actions, so too the Dharma of the Sage in this world is spoken and arises from one's own actions.' For example, just as one cannot hear a sound even if there is an image of it if one does not have ears, so too, if one has not accumulated the karma of seeing the Buddha and hearing the Dharma, it will not occur. As it says in that very text: 'Just as, being without ears, one does not experience subtle sounds, and just as they do not enter the ears of all the gods, so too, this subtle and supreme Dharma, the sphere of activity of subtle wisdom, becomes the path to the ears of certain minds free from afflictions.' In short, by means of the three kinds of miracles, one benefits beings until samsara is empty, and leads beings onto the path of peace. The three miracles are explained in the commentary on the Uttaratantra: The miracle of the body, which pervades all the realms of the ten directions, is taught as the miracle of magical power. Knowing the varieties of minds and realizing them, revealing the profound behavior of sentient beings' minds, is the miracle of teaching. Speaking with the voice, starting from the path of definite liberation, instructing and subsequently teaching, is called the miracle of subsequent teaching. Fourth, among the three qualities of the path of no more learning, the quality of abandonment is the abandonment of all obscurations, both afflictive and cognitive, together with their imprints. As it says in the Vajrasekhara: 'Afflictions and what arises from them, the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge, whatever are the laws contrary to them, are destroyed. Here, they are called the Blessed One.' And as it says in the Sutra Ornament: 'The Sage is definitely liberated from all obscurations.' The quality of realization is the direct realization of all dharmas exactly as they are. As it says in the Madhyamakavatara: 'The Tathagatas have never not fully awakened to, not seen, or not known any dharma; they directly know all dharmas exactly as they are.' The quality of qualities is possessing all qualities of the world and beyond the world. If divided, it is holding the treasury of the sixty-four qualities of the inexhaustible wheel of ornaments of body, speech, and mind.

Sixty-four refers to the explanation in the Commentary on the Ratnagotravibhāga, which states: 'Thus, the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, and the thirty-two major marks of a great being, all these are manifested in one form and summarized as sixty-four.' The ten powers are from the Ratnagotravibhāga: 'The possible and impossible, karmic results, faculties, elements, inclinations, the path of all-going, concentrations, freedom from defilements, mindfulness, divine eye, and peacefulness are the ten powers of knowledge.' Thus it says. The four fearlessnesses are from the same text: 'Perfectly awakened to all dharmas, preventing obstacles, showing the path, and fearlessness in showing cessation are the four fearlessnesses.' Thus it says. The unshared qualities are from the same text: 'Without error or clamor, the teacher has no loss of mindfulness, no lack of equanimity, no diverse perceptions, no unexamined abandonment, desire, diligence, mindfulness, wisdom, liberation, the wisdom of liberation, and vision are without decline. All actions are guided by wisdom, and there is no obscuration of wisdom in time. Thus, these eighteen are the unshared qualities of the teacher.' Thus it says. The Characteristic Vehicle has been explained. From the Precious Treasury of Tenets, which clarifies the meaning of all vehicles, the fourth chapter, which teaches how to practice the path, is complete. Chapter Five: The Chapter on Explaining the Meaning of Secret Mantra. Next, the Secret Mantra Vajrayana will be taught, which has two parts: explaining how it is superior to the Characteristic Vehicle, and explaining the superior Secret Mantra itself. The first part has three: generally explaining the divisions of the Mahayana, specifically explaining the superior qualities, and identifying it as the result. First, the Mahayana is also divided into two: the causal Characteristic Vehicle and the resultant Secret Mantra. The Sutra of the Complete Accomplishment of the Mahayana states: 'There are two Mahayanas, the Paramita Vehicle and the unsurpassed Vajra Vehicle.' And the Sutra of Good Accomplishment states: 'By the distinction of cause and result, there are the Paramita Vehicle and the unsurpassed Vajra Vehicle.' Thus it says.
