When wisdom is first attained, it is called "Utmost Joy" because of attaining a joy that is greater than before. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "For approaching enlightenment, and seeing the accomplishment of beings' benefit, great joy arises, therefore it is called Utmost Joy." In terms of classification, it is the nature of sixteen moments in the order of the Four Truths. There are five special qualities. First, the special quality of the antidote is that the four forbearance of Dharma are the uninterrupted path that eradicates the seeds of what is to be abandoned by seeing from the root. The four knowledges of Dharma are the path of liberation, the antidote of reliance. The four subsequent forbearances and the four subsequent knowledges are the special paths of antidote that lengthen the distance. That is, there is the knowledge of Dharma regarding suffering, and the four knowledges of Dharma regarding the origin, cessation, and path. Just as the essence of a single mental substance is established as four by relying on the distinctions of the Four Truths, so too are their subsequent forbearances and subsequent knowledges similar. The special quality of abandonment has two aspects: essence and types. The essence is liberation from the portions of the afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations to be abandoned by seeing, which have become one's own share. As stated in the Middle Extremes: "The obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge are shown as two. There, all obscurations are such that, when they are exhausted, it is considered liberation." Their essence is, as stated in the Treatise on the Lineage of the Buddha: "Whatever discursive thoughts such as miserliness are considered the obscuration of afflictions. Whatever discursive thoughts about the three spheres are considered the obscuration of knowledge." Therefore, whatever non-virtue that does not thoroughly pacify the mind, or the essence of what is not indicated as obscured, such as miserliness, is the afflictive obscuration. Whatever contaminated virtue that has not separated from the clinging to truth in the three spheres, or the essence of the unlabelled and unobscured, the conceptualization of grasping and the grasped, the object and the subject, is the cognitive obscuration. Among these, the imputed afflictive obscurations are to be abandoned by seeing, and the innate ones are to be abandoned by meditation. The gross conceptualizations of grasping and the grasped of the cognitive obscurations are to be abandoned by seeing, and the subtle ones are to be abandoned by meditation. Second, there are three types: the definition of what is to be abandoned by seeing, the classification, and how to abandon them. The first is any imputed thing that becomes an obstacle to the path of seeing. There are three types of classification. Classifying in terms of essence, there are six: view, attachment.

Attachment, anger, pride, ignorance, doubt. Classified by way of wrong engagement, there are five: view of the aggregates, extreme view, wrong view, view of holding views as supreme, and view of holding moral discipline and asceticism as supreme, and five non-views: attachment, anger, pride, ignorance, and doubt, totaling ten. Classified by object, realm, and way of wrong engagement, there are one hundred and twelve to be abandoned by seeing. That is, when the five views enter the four truths, such as the truth of suffering in the desire realm, the five non-views follow accordingly, each having ten, totaling forty. In the four truths of the two upper realms, except for anger, nine each enter. There are thirty-six in the four truths of the meditation realm, and thirty-six in the four truths of the formless realm, totaling one hundred and twelve. The Compendium of Topics states: "The one hundred and twelve afflictions are the category of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing." The method of abandoning them is that the seeds of what is to be abandoned by seeing are abandoned by the preparatory practices in the manner of suppression, and by the knowledge of dharma and forbearance, etc., in the manner of eradication. That is, the seeds of what is to be abandoned by seeing, which are assembled simultaneously with the direct cause of the knowledge of dharma and forbearance of the four truths, act as the appropriating cause, and the direct cause acts as the co-emergent condition, producing the cessation of the seeds simultaneous with the dharma forbearance. Since no other destroyer is needed for this, it is destroyed in an instant, and therefore, in the second instant, the transformation of the basis of liberation from the seeds of what is to be abandoned by seeing of the knowledge of dharma is attained. The four subsequent forbearances and the four subsequent knowledges are the antidote to the subtlest objects to be abandoned, born after the first two wisdoms of the path of seeing, and liberation from the seeds is what separates the objects to be abandoned. That is, in relation to the instants of each of the four truths and what is to be abandoned, they act as antidotes to the gradual defilements, and in relation to the arising of wisdom, the two paths of the uninterrupted path and the liberation path, when dharma forbearance arises, because what was unseen is seen, it is established as the path of seeing. These objects to be abandoned are suppressed when they encounter the capable and the lineage of wisdom, and diminished when they encounter the incapable and the direct cause, and are abandoned when actual wisdom arises.
