can be protected. The basis of the remainder of attachment is that one realizes the selflessness of wisdom and even abandons the objects to be abandoned of the three realms. However, because one has not obtained the adornments of magical powers and so on through meditation, there are two types of Arhats: those without adornments and those with adornments. There are also two others: distinguished by abandonment and by the faculty gates. The first is the Arhat who is liberated from both divisions, and liberated from the division of wisdom, in that order. Through the power of wisdom and samadhi, one is liberated from the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of absorption of the three realms, and one is liberated from the obscurations of afflictions but not from absorption. The obscurations of afflictions are the three poisons, etc., which cause all afflictions, and the obscurations of absorption are sinking and excitement, etc., which obstruct samadhi. Among these, the obscuration of absorption that obstructs the cause of arising is the obscuration prior to samadhi, and the obscuration that obstructs the abiding of the result is that which does not allow the mind to abide in the present. This has the same name as the Great Vehicle, but the meaning is different. Distinguished by the faculty gates, there are six: the Dharma of falling away, the Dharma of thinking, the Dharma of protecting, the Dharma of abiding without moving, the Dharma of being able to realize, and the Dharma of not moving. The first is that the dull faculty falls away from the bliss of the visible Dharma. That is, falling away from the bliss of meditation. The second is that the dull faculty does not fall away if one thinks, but falls away if one does not think. It is transforming life into enjoyment, and is called the being who thinks of the Dharma of death. The third is that the dull faculty falls away from the abode of bliss if one is intoxicated, and does not fall away if one is not intoxicated. That is, whether or not the mind is distracted by desirable qualities. The fourth is that the dull faculty does not fall away even from the abode of bliss, and also does not have the capacity to subdue the faculties. The fifth is that the dull faculty does not fall away from the abode of bliss, and has the capacity to subdue the faculties. The capacity to realize is that one can obtain a higher state. The sixth is that the sharp faculty does not change from falling away from the abode of bliss of the visible Dharma. All six of these exist in the desire realm, and in the two upper realms there are only the Dharma of abiding without moving and the Dharma of not moving. These are the remainder of attachment.

This is the explanation of the support. The nirvana without remainder is like a fire that goes out when the firewood is exhausted. At the time of nirvana, there is no body, and it is believed that the wisdom of the cessation of mind enters the realm of cessation. As it is said in the "Collection of Specially Expressed Verses": "Where there is no body, consciousness ceases, all feelings are separated, formations are nearly pacified, and consciousness is extinguished." The explanation of the Hearer's Ground is finished. Secondly, there are three paths of the Pratyekabuddha: like a rhinoceros horn, great practice in the assembly, and small practice in the assembly. The first has five points. The difference in lineage is that the Pratyekabuddha is divided into three types: those with sharp faculties, great pride and sorrow, little compassion for the benefit of others, and who like to live alone like a rhinoceros horn. The difference in accumulating merit is that they accumulate merit gathered by the path of accumulation for a hundred great kalpas. As it is said in the Treasury: "The cause of a rhinoceros horn is a hundred kalpas." That is, knowing that the support for accumulating merit itself has no chance to attain enlightenment, in order to fulfill the aspiration, they become proficient in the world by hearing and thinking about the Hearer's Vinaya, and aspire to be born in a buddha-field where there are no Buddhas or Hearers. May the realization of the path arise naturally in the continuum of that support of birth. May they teach the Dharma to those to be tamed by bodily gestures, and not teach through words. Thus, they make three aspirations. The difference in accomplishing the path is, as it is said in the Root Wisdom: "When the perfect Buddhas do not appear, and the Hearers are also exhausted, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddha arises, arising without relying on others." As it is said, after that rebirth, they are born into a world without Buddhas or Hearers, and from the moment they go to the cemetery and see the bones, they become disgusted with samsara. They think: Alas, where did these bones come from? They came from old age and death. Where did old age and death come from? They came from birth. And so on, by observing the twelve links of dependent origination in the forward order, and thinking about how to be liberated from this. Again, from the cessation of ignorance leading to the cessation of formations, until the root of the twelve links of dependent origination in reverse order, which lead to the cessation of old age and death, is cut off. Thus, they know that all dharmas are merely arising in dependence, and they contemplate the impermanence of the twelve links of dependent origination and the four truths.
