This reasoning is not reasonable. If, according to the view that things are different, then, in the Sutra Unraveling the Thought, it says: Even if one directly realizes the ultimate truth, because one observes it separately from the conventional, one will not attain nirvana. The ultimate truth, which is different in substance from the conventional, will not be the nature of the conventional truth, just as a pot is not the nature of cloth. Because the two truths are different in substance, the mere fact that the conventional is not established will not become the ultimate truth, just as the mere fact that a pot is not established will not become cloth. Even at the time of attaining nirvana by directly realizing the ultimate truth, because one observes it separately from the conventional, it will also become all afflictions. Therefore, in the continuum of one person, all afflictions and purification occur simultaneously without contradiction. This is said to be refuted by five reasons. Therefore, the ultimate truth, which is free from all elaborations, cannot be said to be either different or the same entity from the conventional truth, but is merely a difference that negates oneness. The etymology or meaning of the name is that "sam+pra+ti" (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语:conventional) means to obscure, therefore it is conventional, which is the deluded consciousness that obscures the true meaning. It is true in its object, therefore it is truth, which is the nature of the appearance of various phenomena such as form, like a dream. para+ma+artha (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语:ultimate) means that for those who seek the most excellent meaning, it is the fruit of their seeking, therefore it is ultimate. It is the nature of unerring wisdom. It is also excellent because it is true in the object of unerring wisdom, therefore it is truth, which is suchness. The determination of number is that the knowable phenomena, such as form, are beyond all duality such as existence and non-existence. Merely by negating it, it is determined to be related to duality. Because the intermediate third aggregate is eliminated, it is related to duality. Moreover, transcending duality, the number is determined to be two, which is determined by the valid cognition that holds it to be related to duality. These two are established as the two truths, therefore the determination of number is established. The detailed division is twofold: the ultimate truth and the conventional truth. As it is said in the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son: The world

These two truths of the wise, you have seen for yourself without hearing from others. They are the conventional truth and the ultimate truth; there is no third truth. Thus it is said. The conventional truth is also divided into two: the false conventional, which appears but cannot perform a function, and the true conventional, which appears and can perform a function. In the two truths, although similar in appearance, they function. Because of the ability and inability, they are true and not true. The distinctions of the conventional have also been explained. Thus, being able to function in accordance with appearance, arising from causes, being free from imputation, and appearing similar in their respective categories, the phenomena such as form that possess these four characteristics are the true conventional, because they are able to perform their respective functions. Appearance However, the false conventional, which cannot function, such as the illusion of falling hair and the appearance of two moons, is a very subtle distinction because it cannot function. Thus it is believed. In the ultimate truth, those who have only negated the true arising and so on, and have not been liberated from the elaboration of non-arising, are the ultimate truth with characteristics; those who have been liberated from all elaborations of arising and non-arising are the ultimate truth without characteristics. Thus it is divided into two, as it is said in that text: The negation of arising and so on is also accepted as being in accordance with the truth. The term "ultimate truth" is used for that which pacifies all elaborations of arising and non-arising. Thus it is said. Secondly, the characteristics are twofold: the actual characteristics and the valid cognition that ascertains them. The first, the characteristic of mere truth, is that any phenomenon is without inherent existence. The characteristic of the conventional truth is that any subject of dharma cannot withstand examination by reasoning. The characteristic of the ultimate truth is that anything can withstand examination by reasoning. Thus, that which is empty of its own essence is without inherent existence. That which can be refuted by ultimate reasoning is called unable to withstand examination, and that which cannot be refuted by any reasoning is called able to withstand examination. Thus, the substantialists believe that that which can function is the ultimate truth, and therefore do not accept the true conventional. However, the Madhyamikas say that the conventional is twofold: the knowable that cannot withstand examination and can function is the characteristic of the true conventional. The knowable that cannot withstand examination and cannot function is the characteristic of the false conventional.
