Excellent Oral Instructions. Now, to explain the distinctions of each vehicle separately, there are two parts: a brief presentation of the tenets of the outsiders and a broad analysis of the inner doctrines. The first is that the early teachers of the heretics who turned outward from the teachings of the inner Buddhist teachings considered five schools of logic. Among them, the Samkhya school is considered the basis of all. Verse: The enjoyer is permanent and real, the self is not the agent, the qualities are inaction, and the Samkhyas contemplate. Depending slightly on these distinctions, the doctrines of the heretics become different. Thus. Among them, the Samkhya, Ishvara, Vishnu, and Shiva schools are four that view permanence, while the Charvaka school speaks of annihilation. First, the Samkhya school appeared when beings lived for twenty thousand years. A hermit who attained liberation through asceticism, named Serkya (कपिल, Kapila, transliterated as Kapila), composed many treatises. His disciples who held his doctrine were Varadhvaja and the son of Churlhung. Varadhvaja believed that all knowable things were definitely twenty-five in number, while the son of Churlhung believed that the nature of the twenty-five was also empty. Therefore, it was named Serkya. From the Essence of Wisdom Collected from All, it is said: The Samkhyas speak of qualities, the Serkyas believe in emptiness. Thus. If divided, there are the Samkhya, Serkya, and Three Qualities. Among them, the Samkhyas, the basis of all doctrines, believe that all knowable things are included in the self and the chief. This has five aspects: the self and the chief, how to know them, the faults of not knowing them, and the benefits of knowing them. The first is: The enjoyer is permanent and real, the self is not the agent, the qualities are inaction, and the Samkhyas contemplate. Thus. The self is the person of sentient beings, who is conscious, permanent, unique, free from action, and an enjoyer because he enjoys objects. He dwells in the womb of the chief of the nature cause, so he is hidden from anyone's sight and has five characteristics. There are two chiefs. The chief of the nature cause is the three of happiness, suffering, and equanimity, or the three of desire, hatred, and ignorance, or the three qualities of courage, dust, and darkness, which are equally mixed, and are material.
