If desired, there is no union because there is absolutely nothing here. The nature of non-existence has no difference, and the two are inseparable, hence it is called non-dual union. This is the most supreme key point of all vehicles, its scope is vast and it is crucial. From this, it is known that appearances are not considered as mind, and the mind that has never existed is shown as the great primordial Buddha. Based on this, the instruction to recognize appearances as mind and to recognize mind itself as emptiness should be understood as not being the intention of Nyingtik. In some instructions it may be so, but it can be determined that it is only guiding those of lower capacity, and not the ultimate meaning. Third, the appearance of objects in the mirror of the mind, the six consciousnesses spread widely as great equality: external appearances are various, internal thoughts and concepts are sudden, all six senses together with the objects of appearance are non-existent, only clear appearances. In reality, whether internal or external, there is nothing, like the hair of a person with cataracts, like illusion, magic, or emanation appearing in the mind. However, at the time of appearance, it should be known that it has already transcended the extremes of existence and non-existence. From the perspective of appearance, there is no contradiction no matter how it is established. It may be allowed to be, it may be allowed not to be; it may be allowed to exist, it may be allowed not to exist; it may be allowed to appear, it may be allowed to be empty; it may be allowed to be deluded, it may be allowed to be liberated; it may be allowed to be good, it may be allowed to be bad; it may be allowed to be mind, it may be allowed to be other. No matter how it is established, from the perspective of emptiness, no matter how it is established, it is initially empty. What is established is mind, mind is non-existent. Because there is nothing, there is no establisher, like the actions in a dream and the actions of illusion. Appearances and arising, as well as good and non-good, etc., are all sudden. Their nature is baseless self-liberation. Because the inherent clarity of awareness exists, once recognized, there will be no deviation from the view of dharmata, and there will be no mistake. All phenomena of samsara and nirvana, in the state of awareness, self-arise as the great appearance of clear appearance without existence, just as the appearances of the four elements abide in the sky, or like various dreams not moving from sleep, and sleep not moving from awareness. Everything self-appears on the face of awareness, yet awareness does not see the samsara of confused appearances, does not see the nirvana of pure appearances, and samsara and nirvana do not see awareness. Everything has never moved from the state of baseless great equality, because its nature is not established, it has transcended the seer and the seen, and awareness.

From the very beginning, it arises as the self-sounding or play of awareness of samsara and nirvana, which is merely a designation. It is the great liberation that transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence. The designation is not contradictory, but it is not established in reality. Non-existence is merely the arising of phenomena of samsara and nirvana in clear appearance. As it is said in the "Six Spaces": "The nature of mind, free from defilement, The appearance that is free from objects and conditions, Is the intention of great self-purity, Taught by me, Samantabhadra." And as it is said in the "Ornament of the Jewel Casket": "The entity that is nothing at all, Does not fall into any direction. The entity that is confused with anything, Merely appears as a similar appearance. However, its meaning does not arise, It appears like the ornament of the dharmadhatu." And: "The great wisdom of emptiness, From nothing at all, it is confused with anything." And as it is said in the "String of Pearls": "That is me, that is the goer. It is mind, it is born from mind. It is many, but it is one. Samsara and nirvana are myself. It is the mandala and so on, entering in stages. It is dharma, it appears as dharma. It is the dweller, and it is the goer. It is sitting, sleeping, and walking. It is life, and it is also the cutter. The three worlds are born from that. In short, however it appears, All dharmas arise from that. The great elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space, All arise from that." And so on. From that place, in the nature of things that abide in that way, There is no confusion from the beginning. The dharmakaya is like the sky, Obscured by the clouds of sudden sentient beings. Even the nature of things that abide without confusion, Appears to the mind as a confused manner. And so on. The five afflictions of sentient beings, In reality, they do not exist, Like clouds in the sky, They are sudden and accompanied by conditions. Those clouds arise from the sky itself, Likewise, knowing that they dissolve into the sky, It is called the nature of indivisible oneness. Likewise, knowing that the stains of affliction, Are self-arisen and self-pacified, How can sentient beings be bound? And so on. Just as the appearance is not established, Although it appears to be grasping, it is not established anywhere, Therefore, it is also taught as the great unreliance. As it is said in the "Heap of Jewels": "This mind that has no dwelling place, Has no place to go, yara che. The six consciousnesses that enter everywhere, Have no place to rely on, yara che. The alaya that gathers everything, Has no place to put it, yara che. The ignorance that wanders and is confused, Has no power to change, yara che. All
