I am happy to have enjoyment and so on, and it is unreasonable for others' failures and so on to be understood in the same way. If they are different, since there are many beings, it is reasonable for some to be happy to fail themselves in accordance with others. If one thinks of only one mind, then it is reasonable that if one dies, all die, or if one is born, all are born. In this way, through various means, one examines and searches for one's own mind with the argument of one and many, and finds nothing. This is the understanding of the meaning of the nature of reality being pure from the beginning by the power of wisdom. The mind has no cause, because it is impossible to reverse, so one believes that the accumulation of karma has no end. If the mind has a cause, then there must be a result. If the result is samsara, then it is impossible to be liberated because it is impure. If it is past, then it is unreasonable for samsara to arise. If it is both, then just as samsara and nirvana are different, the mind also becomes different. If they are different, just as body and mind are different, the idea of the kinds of memory and thought gathering into one will also become many different things, so one knows that they will not gather into one. If one says again that the mind has no cause, then these minds are unreasonable, then these are not produced from the cause of the mind, because they are not wisdom. If they are not produced from the mind, then there is nothing that is not understood by merely remaining in the mind itself, because these are neither exhausted by birth, death, dwelling, etc., nor do they increase. As it says in the scriptures: "In this wheel of ignorance, there is no end and no increase." And again: "The nature of the realm of sentient beings is also without limit." Therefore, because there is no cause, one knows that the mind has no increase. Because there is no increase, one knows that there is no birth. Because there is no birth, one knows that there is no death. Knowing these, one knows that there is no good or bad in karma, as it says in the Compendium: "These two, existence and non-existence, are dharmas that do not exist." In this way, because one knows that it is self-purified from the very beginning, therefore, "Since it is pure from the beginning, how can sentient beings be born?" That is what it says. Moreover, the mind has no conditions, for if it had conditions, just as appearances appear in various ways, the mind would also become various, such as colors, due to conditions. The mind becomes different, and memory and thought cannot be unified. If the mind has conditions, it will become permanently destroyed, so the mind will have no karmic results, and the mind will also

If there is such a function, it is very contradictory. It is like saying that the color and good or bad qualities of the body, and all places of birth, still exist even when the body is destroyed. Therefore, it is clear that it only exists like an illusion. If there is no cause, then where do all these various thoughts come from now? These present thoughts do not arise from causes. It is like suddenly being happy to find a jewel in last night's dream and clinging to it as real, but when you wake up, there is nothing. Similarly, even if you cling to present thoughts as real, there is nothing after them, so they only appear as temporary truths and falsehoods, but they do not actually exist. For example, just as various clouds in the sky suddenly gather and then disappear without a trace, even though the clouds are not in the sky, they appear within it. Although causes and conditions are not in the mind, when appearances arise, causes and conditions are absent. It is determined that they do not exist through examining one and many, and the three times. As it says in the *Root Wisdom*: "From seeds that are destroyed and not destroyed, sprouts do not arise. You have shown that all phenomena arise like illusions." And, "The fifth condition does not exist." Also, in the *All-Creating King*: "Without cause and condition, peace is the supreme path." And so on. Therefore, if the mind exists, is it a substantial, colored object? Or is it formless? It is not colored, because if it were, it should be observable by sensory perception, but since what is observable is not perceived, valid cognition through direct perception clearly proves that it does not exist. If it is formless, then how do you know? If you say it is known through movement, then that movement, when examined in relation to color, direction, and the meeting of the past, future, and present, cannot be established. If the previous movement and the present movement meet, then the previous thought at the time of meeting must still exist without ceasing. If it exists, then it contradicts being previous. The previous part of the present and the meeting point have already ceased, and if they do not meet, then the present thought should not move without a cause, and therefore it is refuted. Is movement one or many? If it is one, then the movement loses its diversity. If it is many, then the subject of movement being one disappears. Therefore, the existence of the mind is not established. By realizing that it is like a rootless sky, there is no place to return because there is no birth or basis for birth. If the sky does not exist, then by recognizing the previous and subsequent thoughts, they disappear there, thereby recognizing that the mind has no basis. By recognizing this,
