Knowing. (As mentioned above) At that time, all appearances of the external world disappear, appearing as a groundless expanse. All thoughts in the inner mind arise and dissolve naturally, leaving no trace. Seeing that appearances and consciousness are unrelated, vast and transparent, this is called realizing the meaning of the exhaustion of phenomena, appearing when wisdom is exhausted. These are stated in the "Noble Stack of Jewels Sutra": 'Light Protector, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should initiate diligence in thoroughly searching for consciousness. That consciousness is neither seen externally, nor internally, nor between the two. It is not blue, not yellow, and so on.' Until 'Among all diligences, the most supreme diligence is thoroughly searching for consciousness.' Second, examining one and different: This is the instruction for breaking down the cage of the mind. That is, if the mind exists, what is its cause? If it does not exist, then what is the movement and the cycle of memory? Upon what conditions do these appearances of memory arise? If there are no conditions, then these sudden memories are unreasonable. If the mind is one with the body, then when the body is destroyed, the mind should also be destroyed. If it is not one, then since the destination is uncertain, the illnesses of the body will transfer to the mind, and the cycle of previous and future lives will not be possible. If the mind is one, then when the senses of one being cease, other beings should also die. If it is not one, then just as the forms of beings are different, the minds of beings should also be different entities. If the minds are different, then all the creatures like worms in one body should all die together when the life of one person ends. If the mind is one, then there would be countless internal and external beings in one body, what is the reason for this? If the mind has a place to return to, then first there must be a cause. If there is a cause, then it is conditioned, impermanent, and will eventually be destroyed, therefore there would be no distinction between good and bad karma. If there is no place to return to, then countless aggregates of beings would not arise. If the mind is diverse, then beings would not simultaneously generate the distinction between self and other. Because of mutual confusion, there would be self-conquest, immortality, no suffering, and the whee
