From sentient beings, when the causes of individual actions are severed, sitting in the vajra posture, the body is tamed and benefits the mind. Speech abides in the syllable "Hūṃ" (ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), increasing blessings and cultivating strength, leading with gentle force onto the path, thus speech is tamed and benefits the mind. The mind is where it first arises, where it dwells in the middle, and where it ultimately goes. Thus, examining and analyzing these three, the mind is tamed, and one knows the true nature of the mind. Thus it is. The ritual of settling into the natural state is also, at this time, the key points of body, speech, and mind, the yogi performs the settling. Thus it is. The necessity of these is twofold, the common necessity is the pacification of obstacles of body, speech, and mind, and the purification of sins and obscurations. The supreme necessity is liberation into the three kayas, as it says in the text: Here there are two kinds of necessity, shown by the distinction of common and supreme. Thus it is. The second meaning, the actual method of showing the uncontaminated wisdom in the continuum, has two aspects: explaining the meaning of the term "actual," and distinguishing the order of meaning. The first has two aspects: delimiting with words, and establishing on the basis of meaning. The first is: the term "actual basis" has four possibilities. Being a basis but not actual is like seeing the palace but not seeing the king; some Dzogchen teachings are based on the Dharma but cannot be practically applied, so the nature of Dharma becomes scattered, and they die like ordinary people at the time of death. Being actual but not a basis is like seeing the king but not determining his characteristics; some instructions initially hit the key point, but ultimately are not delimited by words, so they cannot remain on that point and become mere talk. Being neither actual nor a basis is like not seeing either the king or the palace; common vehicles generally take the view and practice of words as a path of intellectual speculation, and because they do not meet the real meaning, they do not know where to go in the end. Being both actual and a basis is like seeing the king and knowing his characteristics well; by directly seeing the essence of the heart through manifest awareness, one does not rely on viewing it as view and practice, and because one sees the basis, there is no place to retreat, and one is called a yogi who is liberated from samsara and nirvana at once. That is, even if one sees the master's teaching of the key points of manifest Dharma nature and has faith, if one does not practice with diligence, one will not see the contaminated aspects of this, and one will not attain Buddhahood.

Even animals rarely encounter this, so it is very important to abandon the world and practice. If the key point exists but is not practiced, it is like a treasure under the ground and is of no use. Secondly, to bring it down to the point of meaning is to bring awareness down to oneself and to actually introduce it, which is called seeing the appearance of the Vajra Chain. Although it cannot be actually shown, common people only verbally say "awareness" but cannot really understand it. This is like telling the history of Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya) without having seen it, or like a blind orator describing colors to others. Sometimes one thinks that awareness is unborn emptiness, and sometimes one thinks that various things appear. Although the words of guidance explain well that the essence is emptiness like the sky, and the way of appearance is uninterrupted like the image in a mirror, one now clings only to something that exists, and ultimately thinks that there is nothing at all. Therefore, one cannot attain Buddhahood by the view, meditation, and conduct of the nine vehicles. Because of the speculation of the mind and the back and forth of words, each time a slight arising and ceasing occurs in experience, sometimes one thinks "it is so" and cultivates on this basis, thinking that a new realization has arisen, and one is delighted; sometimes one falls into the abyss of "it is not so" and the mind is depressed, tormented by the hidden worries of displeasure and sorrow, thinking "what is it really? What should I do if I die now?" Thus, one engages in the scattered talk of samsara without Dharma, and therefore there is no time to see the meaning of awareness. The teacher Garab Dorje once said: The view of clinging to the mind is truly annoying, the meditation that relies on it is truly tiring, the conduct that arises from it is truly frustrating, and the expectation of the fruit from it is truly confusing. These words have come true. Here, when the Vajra Chain of awareness is seen, the nature of awareness has no good or bad and no change, and everything is in its state, with no other place to go, so it is called the "basis," and it cannot be lost to other places. Moreover, awareness manifests the signs of liberation by subduing the winds, appearing as flowing back and forth; relying on bindus, it manifests the signs of liberation, appearing as a connection of subtle bindus; awareness relies on the key points of the channels and manifests the signs of liberation, appearing as a connection of subtle and curved Vajra Chains. These three are not the real awareness, but by relying on its qualities, liberation is attained through the key points of forceful means. It is not enough to just see awareness, one must also become accustomed to it.
