The Eighteenth Story: Revealing the Covenant of the Path of Clear Light Vajra Essence. The Eighteenth Story: Revealing the Covenant of the Path of Clear Light Vajra Essence. Having thus shown the path for those who delight in mental proliferation, now, for the sake of those who are utterly free from proliferation, the great secret of the excellent path of self-arising awareness, the Vajra Essence, is revealed in two parts: ascertaining the way in which it excels the common vehicles, and explaining the unique path itself. The first is that it excels by seven key points: other paths quickly realize due to great wisdom, but do not liberate due to small liberation; this path, with the key point of the power of sight, has only the difference of greater or lesser diligence, but no sharpness or dullness of faculties. Others rely on their own dharma nature, trusting in mental judgment, like throwing stones in the dark while meditating on emptiness; this, without relying on mental judgment, as it exists manifestly, has the key point of not relying on mental judgment. Others rely on the sequence of expressive words, hoping to realize the meaning from the beginning; this, without relying on a single syllable, sees the meaning manifestly, so it has the key point of not attaining Buddhahood through words. Others take the meaning of their own state of being as an object of mind, relying on the basis, path, and fruit of discriminative thought and time; this, as self-illumination has become manifest, does not rely on the basis and path of mind-made thought, so it has the key point of attaining Buddhahood. Others rely on the precedence of cause and effect, seeking enlightenment from elsewhere; this, without relying on the karma of good and bad cause and effect, has enlightenment arising from itself, so it has the key point of being without effort and acceptance or rejection. Others believe that the channels, winds, and bindus, etc., flourish in youth, so they achieve enlightenment, but in old age, the strength to arise is exhausted, so they do not liberate; this, as the sun and moon of self-born clear light arise from within, if endowed with diligence, has no old or young age, it has the key point of liberation. Others rely on believing that the ultimate result is the three kayas; this, as the three kayas appear as the path, has the key point of seizing the stable sovereignty of spontaneously accomplished awareness in the realm of ultimate clear light, primordial purity. Thus, with the greatness of seven, it excels all the common vehicles from the Hearers to the secret mantras, outer and inner, the nine levels in order. Well, this is also Ati Yoga, and within Ati Yoga...

So, is it superior? Ati Yoga also belongs to the three sections of Mind Section, Space Section, and Instruction Section. Among them, the Mind Section relies on the expansiveness and rootlessness of the Mind Section, thereby directly seeing awareness. The mind momentarily abides in its own clarity, and it considers the arising of non-movement and nine movements to be ultimate. However, in reality, one cannot truly see the actual meaning, it is merely conceptualization, and one does not directly see the definite key points. Therefore, it is superior to that. In the Instruction Section, the three categories of outer, inner, and secret depend on the Bardo period. However, this practice has the key point of liberation into the light body, so this practice is particularly superior. In short, the key points are inconceivable, and although it is superior, words cannot exhaust it, so I will not elaborate on it here. Even if one relies on the key points of channels and winds, the commonality is that channels and winds are conventional and coarse, and they are used as the path. Therefore, relying on various efforts such as physical exercises, there are many obstacles and deviations. However, this practice considers the coarse to be abandoned, and only binds it with the three immovable key points, without using it as the path. Instead, it uses the channels and winds of ultimate wisdom, which transcend grasping and effort, as the path, thereby training the body to purify into light. It does not rely on common practices such as tummo and obstacle removal, because obstacles are delusions and suffering. That is because the channels and winds of delusion are used as the path, because delusion is used as the path. This practice uses ultimate non-delusion as the path, so there are no obstacles or deviations. Deviations also arise because those who rely on conceptual mind and mental discrimination do not see the actual meaning, thereby deviating in the path of similarity and the forms of experience and realization, and because they focus on sensory experience, they cannot transcend the dangerous path of deviation and obscuration. This practice is directly seen by the senses, so there is no deviation, because the actual meaning has already been truly determined. Deviation arises on the path of seeking meaning, so it does not exist in this practice. There is no confusion in this practice, because one does not take sensory experience, the momentary changes of rama-ri, as the standard of the path, but rather takes the self-sound of the luminosity, the undeceiving appearance experience, as the standard. It is not the same as the Six Yogas, because there is a difference between the sound of wind and the sound of awareness, just as there is a difference between the light of a jewel and the light of a lamp. Even if one uses the sound of delusional appearance and impure awareness as the path, one will not be liberated, but one will be liberated by using the sound of pure appearance and actual luminosity as the path. These are their differences.
