The determination is: From the body that has exhausted defilements, the mind that clearly manifests the nature of outward arising, like a shooting star, is clearly seen in the realm of space. In the initial moments, from those devoid of wind, the effort of purification is the action of wind, projected from outside the body. From the aspect of the two seers, the body is clear and radiant, the mind is like sparks flying, not abiding in one place, the self-illuminating ground, arising in the manner of two appearances. This severs the connection between body and mind, but it is not the reversal of the three realms. Thus it is said. At this time, the seer is also like a shooting star or sparks of the alaya-consciousness aspect, and the two aspects of wisdom's compassion and knowledge. Therefore, it arises as the knowing aspect that sees both outer and inner objects. At this time, there is no need to deliberately adopt a way of looking, because it never deviates from the wheel of the dharma nature, so it is called the completion of practice. Fourth, the appearance of the exhaustion of dharma nature is twofold: briefly explaining the manner of exhaustion, and elaborately explaining the nature. First, from the previous appearance of fullness like a full moon, the manner of the self-radiance dissolving into the expanse is: just as the moon gradually wanes, the body vanishes and merges into bindus, etc., which will definitely appear in the initial stage. This is to sequentially apply the four stages of formation, abiding, destruction, and emptiness of the outer vessel and inner essence to the purity of the four appearances, which is also similar to the increase and decrease of the four: birth, aging, sickness, and death. The manner of formation of the outer vessel is destroyed, and the lifespan of sentient beings of the inner essence increases and decreases, which are signs of exhaustion. If these are not exhausted, one will not be liberated from self-grasping and the three realms. Thus, as the outer vessel world is exhausted, there is no basis for support, which is the key to having no place for reversal. As the inner essence sentient beings are exhausted, the continuation of birth is cut off, and now awareness itself is free from death. Thereafter, appearances are no longer established as anything, and it is difficult to express with "is" or "is not," so it is called the exhaustion of dharma nature, which is the ultimate result. The result is difficult to express with "is" or "is not," because it is inconceivable. The so-called exhaustion of dharma refers to the exhaustion of coarse dharmas such as the outer environment and inner body at the time of completion, while here it refers to the dharma of alaya-consciousness.

When all that is gathered by the mind is exhausted, the fundamental ignorance that abides as the nature of the three doors of the base is thoroughly purified. In terms of the deluded phenomena, the luminosity of appearance, which is without arising or ceasing, abides in the ultimate nature of reality. By thoroughly purifying these two natures, it is called the exhaustion of nature. Appearance refers to the spontaneous appearance that was previously present, dissolving inward and gradually disappearing. The appearance of primordial purity, like a cloudless sky, is naturally pure and remains in this state for a moment, hence it is called appearance. However, this is not like the appearance of things and characteristics. At this time, there is not even an object of focus in the Dharma itself, hence it is called the exhaustion of nature. This refers to the time when the object of Dharma, and the grasping of emptiness of that nature, are gathered by the subject, and the minds and mental factors of the three realms, together with the base consciousness, cease. The ways of exhaustion are gradual and sudden. Gradual exhaustion is the time when the four appearances reach their limit. Sudden exhaustion is when one first directly sees the nature of reality and then becomes accustomed to it, and there is exhaustion without the arising of appearances such as the increase of experience. This is called supreme suddenness. This also refers to the way of exhaustion that only a very few people with karmic connections from previous practice, who have greater respect for the lama than others, can achieve, and that is all. Second, the detailed explanation of nature is divided into five aspects: essence, definition, nature, reality, and boundary. The essence of the exhaustion of nature is: the appearance of the five outer lights, together with the body, is exhausted; the inner solid thoughts, together with the conceptual aggregates, are exhausted; the object of experiential appearance is exhausted. The appearance of primordial purity, the awareness abides in a state like space. As it is said in the *Madhyamakāvatāra*: "The appearance of the exhaustion of nature is when the appearance of experience vanishes, the body is exhausted, and the objects of the senses are also exhausted. The conceptual aggregates are liberated from delusion, and are free from the object of expression." The definition is: Dharma refers to the collection of body, speech, and mind, which is the Dharma with afflictions. Nature refers to the path that purifies this Dharma, which includes the part of meditating on the luminosity of appearance. Exhaustion refers to emptiness, which means that the mind's meditation, together with the appearance of objects, naturally subsides and is non-existent, and is called non-objectification. As it is said in that very text: "Thus, the definition of nature is determined. Dharma knows the collection and accumulation, action, agent, and characteristic holding, revealing its own appearance, holding each of the categories."
