Contemplate. Thus it is said. As for appearances: In the "Vajra Cutter" it says, "The direct perception of dharmata manifests, inevitably arising from the sense gates, clear as the cloudless sky." And also, "Furthermore, through the channels and wheels, the five wisdoms abiding in their own nature are seen with eyes like bubbles." And in the "Self-Arisen" it says, "The luminous body endowed with five wisdoms is exceedingly clear as a string of pearls. That is also going and coming, moving and flickering." And in the "Lion's Perfect Strength" it says, "That object of self-appearing awareness abides in a string of wisdom pearls." And in the "Jewel Ornament Array" it says, "In the far-reaching water lamp, the enlightened awareness of the complete Buddha, the body of a string of pearls, is fully clear." The method of practice is to first practice in short sessions with many repetitions. Secondly, increase the sessions and prolong the duration. Thirdly, practice without day or night, placing awareness within the enclosure of the expanse, making it unmoving. As a lamp blazes, the expanse becomes the natural abode of awareness. The vajra itself is a string of pearls. This should be placed within. The result is: In the outer appearance of the expanse, when the eyes are naturally unmoving, the inner awareness abides on the ground, the radiance dissolves and revolves, separated from the horse of the lung-wind of the lungs, the sky of wisdom dissolves into the sky of the expanse, and in the liberation of equality and non-differentiation, the originally pure awareness, without moving from the expanse, naturally abides in the luminous wisdom of the heart. The yogi is therefore called one who has attained the primordial luminosity of dharmata, samsara is emptied in namelessness, and the three realms are cut off. As it says in the "Vajra Cutter": "Therefore, the essential point of the direct perception of dharmata is that by merely seeing, one knows; by knowing, one realizes; and by merely realizing, one is liberated. Liberation is not unraveling. The sky dissolves into the sky, and since its nature is without object, there is no differentiation or parts. For the fortunate one who has found direct perception, the three realms of samsara are without name, and the three realms are cut off." Thus it is said. Secondly, the appearance of increasing experience is divided into two. The brief instruction is: By continuously training in the expanse-awareness, just as awareness abides inseparably as a string of pearls in the outer appearance of the expanse, so too in the inner originally pure empty expanse,

When wisdom and the realm of reality abide in non-duality, the mother and child of luminosity merge, and various experiences increase. As it says in the Transcendence of Extremes: "The increase of experiential appearances is when the colors of wisdom emerge outward, standing upright and radiating, with various bindus in one's own body, clear in the realm of gross appearances." This is how it is said. To explain in detail, the experience in "increasing experience" has two aspects: the experience of knowing and the experience of appearance. The experience of knowing includes worldly experiences of knowing, such as the joy and happiness obtained through samadhi, attachment to the mind, the desire to engage in singing and dancing, and so on; and transcendent experiences of knowing, such as the realization of emptiness and clarity, free from extremes, along with the power of wisdom. Through familiarizing oneself with these from beginning to end, three types of experiences arise: the experience of joy and happiness in knowing, the experience of eventual transformation, and the experience of appearance. The first is when the body and speech are restrained at the essential points, and the winds and mind become subdued. Internally, samadhi merges into the state of luminosity and emptiness, and a vast joy and happiness, free from grasping and apprehension, arises naturally. Yet, there is not even a hair's breadth of attachment. This arises from the essential points of natural meditation. The joy and happiness that arises from artificial meditation is mostly a transformation of experience, with gross actions or desires to sing and dance arising, leading to attachment. This is the appearance of joy and happiness, but it is a joy and happiness of freedom, known to be without attachment. The difference lies in the difference between artificial meditation and the meditation in which the winds naturally merge. The experience of eventual transformation is the appearing aspect of wind experience, such as like a firefly, like a cloud, like smoke, like mist, like the rising moon, like the rising stars, like twilight with a blue appearance, and like the sun rising, appearing transparent inside and out. These are eight in total. Because they arise and disappear, brighten and fade, they are unstable, unable to last, and transform, they are called the experience of eventual transformation, because they are the experience of the winds moving. These can be cultivated, because the winds and mind need to be purified. The experience of appearance is the self-radiance of awareness, the great luminosity. Temporarily, the outward appearance increases and reaches its peak. The self-radiance dissolves into the base and is withdrawn inward, so the outward appearance will eventually be exhausted, spontaneously.
