Evil deeds do not realize the meaning of Buddhahood; if virtuous deeds realize the meaning of Buddhahood, then the reality of Dzogchen would become false. Sins will not cause one to fall into samsara; if sins were to cause one to fall into samsara, then the three aspects of a moment would become false. Emptiness does not see the true meaning; if emptiness were to see the true meaning, then the clear light of wisdom would become false. Characteristics do not see the meaning of self-awareness; if characteristics were to see the meaning of self-awareness, then self-enlightened dharmata would become false. Effort does not find the meaning of spontaneous perfection; if effort were to find the meaning of spontaneous perfection, then unchanging essence would become false. Grasping will not see appearances; if grasping were to see appearances, then unceasing nature would become false. Discrimination will not liberate others; if discrimination were to liberate others, then all-pervasive compassion would become false. The appearance of delusion does not obscure me; if the appearance of delusion were to obscure me, then the two lamps would become false. This is what is shown as the intent of secret mantra. Thus it is said. This is a very important and profound instruction on the secret meaning of the expanse, so one should speak directly and without fear. The third general meaning, establishing oneself in the position of confidence and liberation, clearing away obstacles, has three aspects: generally explaining the meaning of self-liberation, specifically explaining the reality of primordial liberation, and extensively explaining the intent of self-liberation. The first is: In this supreme Ati Vajra Essence, the path that definitely liberates from afflictions, afflictions are purified in their own place without being abandoned. It is not like abandoning them as a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha does, or abandoning them as a Bodhisattva does, or transforming them as in the generation stage of lower mantras, or letting them subside into self-pacification as in the completion stage, or taming them with antidotes as in the common vehicle, or settling them in their own way as in the Mind Series, or making them into dharmata as in the Space Series. Why is that? If one does not know that afflictions have always existed as they are, then they cannot be abandoned by abandoning them. If afflictions are abandoned by the mind, then the object to be abandoned and the agent of abandonment are of the same substance, so it is impossible to purify them. If they are abandoned by wisdom, then the mind does not see wisdom, and wisdom does not see the mind, so for mutually exclusive opposites that do not coexist, the terms "object to be abandoned" and "agent of abandonment" are not applicable. There is no abandonment by the former or the latter, because the past and future are contradictory in substance. When one exists, the other has ceased.

At the same time, due to mutual confusion, what should be abandoned becomes the antidote, and the antidote becomes what should be abandoned, because they are simultaneous in the same mind stream. Moreover, afflictions arise from that very mind, just like the body and its shadow, there is no time to abandon them once they are abandoned. Similarly, it should also be applied to purification and so on. The "Sun and Moon Union Sutra" says: "If one does not realize suchness, yoga is like body and shadow. Since that arises from that, abandonment is not true abandonment. Likewise, purification is not true, transformation cannot transform either. Without realizing the essence of immutability, like a crystal rock or turquoise, one cannot purify or melt it. The place of self-purification, only those with yoga can see. Likewise, cessation is not true either, before knowing direct perception and superior seeing, like Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, no one can destroy it. Antidote is not true liberation either, without seeking self-purification and without knowing, like turbid water that wants to be clarified, it is not truly clarified by external means. Although it is clear, it is not the nature of Dharma, without knowing self-appearance and spontaneity, like the appearance of ordinary fools, manifest clinging cannot be stopped." Therefore, one should know the key to self-liberation like water ripples. There are also two levels of wisdom in this: Effortful self-liberation is to identify the afflictions that arise and place them in their own position, thereby flowing in a state of natural dissipation, practicing without wavering for even a moment in the intention of abiding in purity, self-liberation, and great equality. Effortless self-liberation is that whatever arises cannot be sustained, and natural dissipation is the nature of Dharma, therefore, the method of looking at it does not need to be abandoned, but is naturally and effortlessly liberated. These two levels of wisdom have differences in faculties and exist like a sequence. As the sutra says: "These are two levels of wisdom, those with effort and those without effort. Those with effort place themselves in their own position, with the measure of habituation of appearances, when the appearance of pure wisdom, arises spontaneously in everything inside and outside, it does not arise from causes and conditions. Even if they arise, they are liberated by placing themselves in their own position, therefore yoga is appearance. Those without effort are shown as follows, self-liberation of oneself in oneself, the self-nature of oneself is self-liberated, like iron cutting iron, like stone breaking stone."
