This nature of reality, free from defilement, devoid of substantiality, is the supreme, non-dual intention of all Buddhas. It transcends the path of individual discrimination, signs, and words. The nature of reality, free from effort, is pure in its own place. Immersed in samadhi, the nature of reality engages with objects. In the nature of reality, there are no terms like pure and impure. It is the primordial state of being, beyond one and two. Spontaneously, the self-existing essence merges into a single bindu. Through timeless realization, the samadhi is clear and unwavering. Without beginning or end, the nature of reality is beyond names. It is unchanging, directly pervading all. Unfabricated, it is spontaneously accomplished in its place of origin. Thus it is said. Secondly, cultivating within that state has three aspects: Cultivating the great view that transcends objects, cultivating the great self-abiding samadhi, and cultivating the great intention that transcends mind. Firstly, in the state of introduction, without engaging the grasping and fabrication of the mind, nor the antidote of deliberate meditation, the awareness is left wide open, naturally relaxed, and unobstructed, abiding in self-liberation without interruption. As it is said in the Jeweled Casket: "Vast is the nature of reality, utterly pure! Great is the view, most wondrous! Appearing is the self-appearing mandala itself! Object and non-object are utterly pure! Outer and inner are without, utterly manifest! Empty and not empty, beyond words!" And as it is said in the Lion's Perfected Strength: "Wherever the first place is, the last goes to that place. Now abide in the meaning of that." And again: "In the sky free from grasping and thought, when consciousness and mind do not waver, that is the supreme samadhi without distraction, the sole abiding place of the Buddhas." Thus it is said. Secondly, there are three aspects: Abiding in one's own place: without making any effort to grasp the appearances of the six aggregates of objects, but rather leaving it wide open, relaxed, and clear, without any separation between inner and outer. Even when going to sleep, one sleeps in that state, so that dreams will appear as clear light. Like a falling meteorite: releasing the three doors freely, whatever arises is allowed to strike directly, abiding in the state of self-liberation, naturally dissolving. Expanding appearances: sitting in the vajra posture, gazing steadily into space, cutting off the mind's distractions, and abiding in the state of awareness and half-awakening. The five winds are then gathered into space, and the clear light of pure self-appearance arises, outwardly like smoke, mirages, rainbows, and so on, and inwardly like the pure appearance of the emptiness and clarity of the nature of reality. As it is said in the Sixth Sphere: "Thus train in the three samadhis. The samadhi of abiding in one's own place is the power of the senses."
