Furthermore, those of middling faculties in the bardo of existence are liberated by the arising of the illusory body of the deity. Those of lesser faculties continue their virtuous deeds, and in the future, they will surely be liberated upon encountering the supreme Dharma. The *Illusion Sutra* states: "Even if liberation is not attained in this life, in another life, one will attain liberation in existence." It is also said in the common tradition that those who are devoted to suchness will be liberated in the future. The *Four Hundred Verses* states: "If by knowing that, one does not attain cessation here, in another life, without effort, one will surely attain it, like one's karma." As it is said. Having completed the discussion of the Great Vehicle's meditation, including the remainder of these topics. Third, regarding the intention of the Sugata, there are two aspects: The concise explanation is found in the *Self-Arisen Sutra*: "The intention of the Tathagata should be known as the expanse of the sky. If one becomes accustomed to it, the light of wisdom will freely arise. The true path is also the same." As it is said. The extensive explanation is found in the *Sun and Moon Union Sutra*: "The Sugata's intention has two aspects: by resting without fabrication, the arising of feeling ceases; by looking without meditation, the measure of warmth is found." As it is said. That is, with regard to the appearance of Dharmata Mother, without hope, fear, distraction, or contraction, the great intention is without distinction between equality and subsequent attainment, the yoga of a continuous stream like a river without interruption. Regarding the nature of space without beginning or end, without distraction or non-distraction, one abides in the expanse as one. At this time, it is called the meditation of the union of day and night, daytime is the past part, nighttime is the part of samsara, day and night arise without distinction, the experience of meditation has nothing clear during the day, and nothing unclear during the night, but passes clearly. Second, regarding its instructions, the method of resting like an ocean. The clear part of tears is called the ocean, and it is called resting like an ocean because it is kept still. That is, if one does not meditate, one does not meditate; from the moment one meditates, the key is to stare without blinking. By doing so, for example, just as whatever images of stars and so on appear in the ocean, all appear clearly and brightly in the field of appearance, but do not exist in the field of grasping, and therefore do not stain the ocean, similarly, whatever external appearances arise in the vision of the yogi, they appear in the appearance, but awareness is not lost on the appearance, therefore it does not exist in the field of grasping, and therefore it is not stained. External appearances do not stain awareness, internal

Not grasping at appearances, the connection between appearance and awareness is severed, the grasper and grasped dissolve into non-existence, this is called the meditation of relaxing the six aggregates. This has two aspects: the actual meditation and cutting off wrong paths. The actual meditation is to restrain the vital points of the winds and mind, and to leave awareness in its own state. As it says in the *Transcending Thought*: "Meditation is the mind abiding, cutting off the movement of inner and outer, the grasper and grasped cease." And as it says in the *Without Letters*: "From the beginning, unmade, naturally arising, just as it is, not transformed by appearances, not altered by mind, the nature of reality abiding in space, is shown as the intention. The wisdom of the dharmakaya, abandoning all thoughts, without movement, is the intention of meditation. If you do not grasp at the objects of focus, like stars and moon rising in the ocean, the unceasing clarity without grasping, is the way to abide in intention." At that time, it is perfected in the intention of the nature of reality, the original state. As it says in the *Six Spaces*: "The mind itself that is in speech, the objects of the five senses are self-purifying, like water that is not turbid but clear, all appearances are perfected in their own place." The second is cutting off wrong paths. If the six aggregates cease and fall into unconsciousness, then it will fall into one side of calm abiding, that is a wrong path. If it goes into scattering and wildness, then it is a wrong path. If the profound clarity of self-radiance is not found, then it is a wrong path. If you grasp at one-pointed fixation, then it is a wrong path. In short, it should be known that other than the meditation of awareness being self-luminous, liberated, without grasping, abiding in its own state, all others are wrong paths. As it says in the *Transcending Thought*: "The meditation of not falling into wrong paths is, in the clarity of the sense doors, not moving into mental thought, the mind that acts in awareness itself, not being lost outwards." At that time, awareness is not stained by appearances, appearances are not used by awareness, the nature is clear and transparent, without the fixation of grasping at one-pointedness, vast, relaxed, expansive, free, and open, this is the meditation of self-arisen wisdom. As it says in that very text: "The characteristic appearance of meditation is, in the nature of emptiness and clarity, awareness, the nature not mixing with anything, the exhaustion of the extremes of grasper and grasped, the purity of the nature of reality itself." Incidentally, the faults of not meditating are, as it says in that text: "The fault of not meditating is, the characteristics of samsara appearing manifestly, self and other, object and awareness, words and views, objects related to focus.
