Being separate from (permanence). The Sambhogakaya is separate from characteristics. The Nirmanakaya is separate from certainty. As it is said in 'Treasury of Accomplishments': 'The essence of the body does not change. The definition of the body is clear and radiant. The distinctions are shown as three aspects. It possesses Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya. The characteristic of the Dharmakaya is beyond thought. The characteristic of the Sambhogakaya is without clarity or obscuration. The characteristic of the Nirmanakaya shows various forms.' So forth. Also, for speech, the essence is emptiness of sound. The definition is the appearance of various aggregates of Dharma in the sphere. The distinctions are: the speech of great activity that appears to tame beings according to their needs; the Brahma's speech that appears in sixty branches; the speech that appears as the respective languages of the six realms, in accordance with their own perceptions; the speech that satisfies the senses with pleasant sounds, according to the inclinations of sentient beings; the speech of signs that makes the meaning understood through the indication of signs; and the speech of words that eliminates afflictions by being heard by the ears of those to be tamed. These are also distinguished by the Nirmanakaya through the difference in essence and function. For the Sambhogakaya, it is merely indication. For the Dharmakaya, there is no appearance other than the speech of meaning that is beyond expression. The speech that appears as the Nirmanakaya is like the appearance of an echo. In reality, it does not exist, but merely appears. This arises from the accumulation of the merit of those to be tamed and the blessings of the Buddhas. The sounds and words themselves have no inherent existence. As it is said in the 'Uttaratantra Shastra': 'The speech of the Victorious Ones Is like an echo, without letters.' And as it is said: 'Just as the sound of an echo Arises from the consciousness of another, Without conceptualization and without creation, Likewise, the speech of the Tathagata Arises from the consciousness of another, Without conceptualization and without creation, Likewise, the speech of the Tathagata Does not abide in the outer or inner directions.' These meanings are also stated in 'Treasury of Accomplishments': 'The essence of speech is emptiness of sound. The definition of speech manifests various forms. The distinctions are shown as six aspects: The speech of the Buddha's activities, The speech of praise of Brahma and the gods, The self-speech of the deluded six realms, The taming speech pleasing to sentient beings, The secret speech of signs of the consort, And various sounds are shown as speech.' So forth. Thirdly, for mind, the essence is without delusion. The definition is awareness clear in its own ground. The distinctions are: the wisdom of complete abandonment, the mind of mindfulness and clarity; the wisdom of complete realization, the mind of the immutable vajra; the mind of complete activity.

The three minds of the wisdom and knowledge of the Mother Tantra are various. From that very [text]: The essence of mind is without delusion. The definition of mind appears as thought. If divided, it is shown as three aspects. The nature of mind is mindfulness and awareness, the Vajra immutable mind, and it is shown as the mind of various knowledges. Thus it is. Fourth, regarding qualities, the essence is the complete perfection of the qualities of the Buddha's ground. The definition is that all nine perfections arise spontaneously without effort, like a jewel. If divided: the quality of the ground is that the Dharmakaya attains its own ground, thus fulfilling its own purpose. The quality of the path's appearance is that the Sambhogakaya is clear to its retinue, thus the activity of benefiting others arises. The quality of leading to the end is that the Nirmanakaya guides beings, thus joining them to the ultimate Dharmakaya. From that very [text]: The essence of qualities generates all. The definition of qualities accomplishes various things. If divided, it is shown in three aspects: the quality of abiding on the ground, the quality of appearing on the path, and the quality of leading to the end. Thus it is. Fifth, regarding activities, there are also three aspects: essence, definition, and division. The essence of activity is to spontaneously accomplish the benefit of sentient beings until samsara is empty. From the Ornament of Clear Realization: Likewise, as long as this existence lasts, its activity is considered to be continuous. Thus it is. The definition is: the activity of the three kayas acts on those to be tamed, thus purifying karma and afflictions, and leading them to the state of Buddhahood. Knowing the faculties and latent tendencies of those to be tamed, even doing what is appropriate for them, there is no effort, like the reflection of the moon in water. From the Uttaratantra: The faculties of those to be tamed, the actions of taming, their situation, and suchness, the pervasive lord always engages in spontaneous accomplishment. Thus it is. If divided, there are four: From the Great Tantra of Self-Arisen Awareness: Peaceful, increasing, powerful, and wrathful. Thus it is. Peaceful: Purifying the obscurations of beings and pacifying all suffering, with inexhaustible means, the wheel of ornaments arises. Increasing: Increasing the qualities of beings and fulfilling all desires. Powerful: Harmoniously gathering all beings and, through the great river of the lineage of power, extensively carrying out the activity of fully ripening those who are not yet ripe. Wrathful: Subduing the wicked and the three realms.
