are also reborn there. Those who respectfully made offerings to the Three Jewels in their previous lives are also able to be well ordained here, fully ordained, practice pure conduct until the end of their lives, and practice the supreme Mahayana Dharma. Those who diligently studied, contemplated, and meditated in their previous lives also have great wisdom here, and through hearing, thinking, and meditating on the gates of limitless aspects of Dharma, they spontaneously accomplish the two benefits of themselves and others, and so on, with immeasurable qualities. Those who committed sinful and unwholesome deeds in their previous lives are also reborn in various lower realms here. Even if they attain heavenly realms, they are born with incomplete faculties and are poor and have little merit. By practicing unwholesome deeds here, they will also be reborn in a realm full of suffering in the future. In short, what was done in the previous life can be known from the present happiness and suffering and the state of body and mind. Where one will be reborn in the future depends on one's present thoughts and actions. As stated in the *Arrayed Tree Sutra*: "Look at the body to see what was done in the past. Look at the mind to see where one will go in the future." Thinking in this way, one should abandon unwholesome deeds and cultivate wholesome deeds, and always keep the mind on the sacred Dharma, because nothing other than Dharma can help. As stated in the *Sutra Requested by the Jewel Daughter*: "Here, fathers, mothers, and friends, relatives and limbs cannot be a refuge. Sons and daughters are likewise not protectors. Except for those with qualities, there is no other protector in the world." And as stated in the *Sutra Admonishing the King*: "When the king is taken away by time, wealth, friends, and relatives do not follow. Wherever beings go, karma follows like a shadow." Secondly, by contemplating the reasons for certain death, one should constantly generate renunciation and weariness: Thus, even though one has obtained the difficult-to-find leisure, it is certain to perish because it is a collection of the four elements, because it is conditioned. Like a body of accumulated bubbles, there is no certainty when it will perish. Therefore, while this support has not yet perished, I will practice the sacred Dharma of liberation. One must think from the bottom of one's heart, what is the use of this dreamlike and illusory appearance of this life? As stated in the *Heap of Jewels Tantra*: "There is no place to stay for the gross elements.\

Regarding the life of a stable person, it is so strange that there is no fixed time! Regarding the appearance of the six aggregates' objects, it is so strange that there is no permanence! Regarding the thoughts and feelings that arise in a person, it is so strange that there is no end! Regarding the suffering that arises from the body, it is so strange that there is no purity! Thus it is said. Although it is impermanent, beings who cling to the appearances of this life, clinging to permanence and truth, are deluded. Thinking from the depths of my heart that I must do something that does not become like that, and whether I have benefited others, whether I have conquered enemies, whether I have conquered lands, whatever I have done, all of that is meaningless and deceptive, so one must look inward at one's own mind. From the glorious Marme Dze Yeshe's presence: Alas! Looking outward at worldly actions, all actions are the cause of meaningless suffering. No matter how you think, there is no benefit. Get used to looking at your own mind. Thus, contemplate. Third, contemplating the example of certain death, the instruction is to meditate on the profound meaning of emptiness when needed. In general, the example of the impermanence of compounded phenomena is similar to dreams and illusions. From the collection of specially spoken words: Alas! All compounded things are impermanent, they are of the nature of arising and ceasing. Since they arise and then cease, therefore, quickly pacifying is bliss. Stars, flickering like lamps, illusions, dewdrops, like bubbles. Dreams, lightning, like clouds, compounded phenomena are also like that. Thus it is said. In particular, the example of the impermanence of a man's life, in the Tantra of the Great Secret Union of the Sun and Moon: Whoever are embodied men, life is impermanent like a dream. Dreams do not accomplish anything. Life is impermanent like a rushing torrent. Flowing water does not stay in one place. Life is ungraspable like the wind. The wind does not hold a man. Life is short like an illusion. Illusions do not last forever. Life is unreal like a magic trick. Magic tricks do not occupy a real place. Life does not stay like a guest. Guests do not stay forever. Life is uncertain like rain clouds. Clouds do not hold time. Thus, the measure of a man's life, like this, is not certain. Suddenly, like a hailstorm, such a time cannot be held. Thus it is said. In the Extensive Play Sutra: Life is impermanent.
