The karmic actions of samsara accumulated by the past, present, and future, and the various ripened results. It is thus nominally established from the many causes, conditions, and functions of memory and various latent tendencies. Some might think it sufficient to say just "mind," but if one thinks that multiple classifications are inappropriate, then it is sufficient to simply generalize it as "mental factors." If one thinks that dividing it into fifty-one is inappropriate, it is the same. Therefore, however much one classifies and categorizes, it depends on the individual parts, so there is no contradiction. The lamp of the completely pure expanse is the union of the arising of light and form. That is, the all-pervading blue color, which is the union of the five colors, is unchanging, and is surrounded on all sides by a vajra fence, so that there is no room for error in the vajra chain. Within that, the light body radiating light appears, and here, in the bardo of reality, it is cut off, and one attains complete and perfect enlightenment. The appearance of light rising upwards, radiating outwards, and appearing in a circle, so that deluded appearances are naturally extinguished and appear as wisdom. From those lights, the appearance of light appears in fragments, cloths, and the shape of shipwrecks, so that the inner and outer expanse are mixed and there is no separation in wisdom. From that appears eye webs, eyelashes, eyelash patterns, nets, half-nets, flowers, thousand-petaled lotuses, hearths, and brocade tents, thus transforming the appearance of reality into the path. These four lamps certainly determine the signs and measures of the four appearances of the path. Through the lasso, seeing the appearance of the direct experience of reality, one turns away from clinging to sectarian dogmas. Through the empty bindu, seeing the increase of experience, one turns away from clinging to the appearance of self-generated bliss. Through the completely pure expanse, seeing awareness reaching its limit, one turns away from the appearance of impure delusion. Through self-arisen wisdom, seeing the appearance of exhaustion, one turns away from clinging to form and wisdom. The second topic is the detailed explanation of the individual nature of each of the four lamps, which are four: the lasso water lamp, the empty bindu lamp, the completely pure expanse lamp, and the self-arisen wisdom lamp. The first also has nine aspects: essence, definition, classification, characteristics, its location, how it arises, the appearance of the arising door, similar examples, and certainty of measure. First is the essence of the water lamp.

This is because both samsara and nirvana are held, so that the clear appearance and the confused appearance can appear as the root, that is, the pure sensory basis, and the pure light channel that depends on it. As it is said in the "Golden Flower Beautiful Precious Lamp Tantra": "The distant rope water lamp, in its essence, gathers both appearances. Because the holding part of the appearance does not stop, looking at the holding part of both, it is the view of the union of samsara and nirvana." Second, in terms of etymology: it holds the clear image of light and the appearance of earth and stones in confused appearance, which are in a distant place. Because the confused appearance of samsara and its confused distinctions are thrown away far away, it is called "distant." If one does not awaken, one will also throw nirvana far away, so it is also called "distant." When self-appearance appears, it is called "rope" because it is bound by impurity. If one does not awaken, one is also called "rope" because one is attached to confused appearance and binds self-awareness, which is similar to a rope. If you analyze the rope, each small fiber cannot play a role in binding. If you do not analyze it, it will form a binding. Similarly, if you analyze confused appearance and confused clinging, they are rootless and empty in nature. If you do not analyze it, the mind and the object of appearance will be confused, just like a rope that binds self-awareness. When it appears to be bound, there is actually no binding. When it appears to be liberated, there is actually no self-nature that can bind, so there is no liberation. As it is said in the "Illusion Sutra": "No one is bound, there is no binding, there is nothing to bind. There is no binding, there is no liberation, the originally complete Buddha Dharma. In order to teach, various changes are shown." Similarly, it is also called "rope" because it binds without allowing self-appearance to develop upward. Because one is not attached to appearance, but is moistened by the joy and happiness of inner samadhi, it is called "water." It is also called "water" because it relies on the gathering of the pure essence of water. It is called "lamp" because the appearance of color appears in the sensory consciousness, and the appearance of light continues to grow. It is called "mother" because it is not the basis for generating the appearance of the wisdom of the dharma realm. It is also called "mother" because the pure sense organ is the basis for viewing with form. As it is said in the "Lamp Flame Sutra": "The definite meaning of the words is like this: Distant is to maintain the distant lineage, to hold the appearance as form, to gather colors and so on, and the body of wisdom also comes from a distant place, the holding of appearance takes effect, the samsara distinction"
