The eight great Nagas are: Nanda, Upananda, Ashvatara, Varuna, Takshaka, Dhritarashtra, Mahakala, and Elapatra. These indicate the events of heavy and light rainfall, etc., in Jambudvipa. On the four sides of the terraces of Mount Meru are the palaces of four Yakshas of great power. These regulate the order of the four seasons, namely, summer rains, autumn grains and flowers ripening, winter cold and freezing, and spring warmth ripening. These beings, including the four wind goddesses, are more excellent than ordinary sentient beings, being accomplished by common karma, and are called beings of karma. They arise together with the formation of the world and also perish together with the destruction of the world, therefore their lifespan lasts for a kalpa. The fundamental abode of the Asuras is located inside Mount Meru, and they are endowed with glory and good fortune comparable to that of the gods. On the golden ground, in the center of the Asura city of Golden City, made of various jewels, are Indra's selected palace, the auspicious assembly place, and the four beautiful gardens: Joyful Garden, Very Joyful Garden, Universally Joyful Garden, and Joyful Delight Garden.
