It is like a barren woman having no son, therefore having no wisdom to measure it. Because there is no truth in the conventional, nothing exists in the ultimate, just as the appearance of horses and cows disappears when a dream is awakened, but because there was nothing in the beginning, it is not established as something that disappears in reality. In the Garland of Views it says: "In the ultimate, there is neither samsara, nor nirvana, nor emptiness, only verbal adornment." This is how they think. In this, there is the conventional that is completely unestablished, the reason that is unestablished, the contradictory that is unestablished, the cause of contradiction that is unestablished, one that is unestablished, many that are unestablished, that which is separate from one and many that is unestablished, mere appearance that is completely unestablished, and so on, there are countless names, and it is known as the higher Svātantrika Madhyamaka. The Prāsaṅgika Madhyamaka is that, like this, that which is not established in the ultimate, and that which is merely apparent and illusory in the conventional, all such things are negated, and it is thought to be separate from all assertions of self-nature that transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence. As it says in the noble Samādhirāja Sūtra: "Permanence and impermanence are also extremes, existence and non-existence are both extremes, therefore, having abandoned both extremes, the wise do not abide even in the middle." And in the Ratnakūṭa Sūtra it says: "The Tathāgata always abides in the unborn Dharma, all Dharmas are like the Sugata, childish people cling to signs, and in the world they practice the Dharma that does not exist." And in the Root Wisdom it says: "Because of dependent arising, there is no cessation and no birth, no discontinuity and no permanence, no coming and no going, neither different meaning nor one meaning, the pacification of all elaboration, the Buddha taught such Dharma, I bow down to the Buddha." And in the Refutation of Disputes it says: "If I had any tenets, then I would have faults, since I have no tenets, therefore I am completely without fault." And: "Because I have no Dharma, therefore I refute nothing, therefore you now want to refute me, you are slandering me in this way." This is also because there is no tenet established by conceptual thought, because of the pacification of elaboration, so they think, so how do worldly people establish the various appearances?

Even if placed as a branch of understanding the meaning of words, it is not accepted. What appears as Dharma transcends truth and falsehood, therefore it is considered to be free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, and also free from the present time. This is the pinnacle of all proponents of philosophical tenets among Buddhists. The great treatises of this school are the six collections of reasoning of Madhyamaka, namely: the Root Wisdom, the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning, the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness, the Thorough Analysis, the Refutation of Objections, and the Establishment of Terminology. Moreover, in the presence of the noble Nagarjuna, in the explanation of the first turning of the wheel of Dharma, the Four Noble Truths, he composed a collection of discourses; in the intermediate turning of the wheel of Dharma, the absence of characteristics, he composed a collection of reasoning; in the final turning of the wheel of Dharma, the definitive ascertainment of ultimate meaning, he composed a collection of praises. Therefore, this teacher, like the Second Buddha, turned the wheel of Dharma, and his treatises are no different from the Buddha's words. The fourth meaning is the establishment of the Action Tantra vehicle, which has two parts: showing how it surpasses the causal vehicle, and explaining the superior vehicle itself. The first is that the characteristic vehicle requires great effort on the cause and must be accomplished with great difficulty; while mantra relies on the cause, the fruit is already ripe, so enlightenment can be attained with little effort, hence it is superior. The causal vehicle takes countless eons of great difficulty through the five paths and ten bhumis to attain enlightenment; while mantra takes at best one lifetime, at medium the bardo, and at worst a few lifetimes to attain enlightenment, so it is faster, hence it is also superior. The causal vehicle requires immeasurable accumulations etc. even for the first bhumi, seeing the truth; while the mandala feast offerings etc. of mantra can be accomplished with subtle means, hence it is also superior. The causal vehicle does not show the path directly, but shows it as provisional and definitive, intentional and hidden intentional, and then distinguishes them; while mantra shows the path directly all at once, without faults and obstacles, hence it is superior. In short, compared to the causal vehicle, the mantra vehicle is superior in accomplishing the desired meaning, with many methods, without difficulty, without delusion, and with the ability for those with sharp faculties to achieve it quickly. The Lamp for the Three Modes says: "Even if the meaning is the same, without delusion, with many methods and without difficulty, relying on the power of sharp faculties."
