It is like a mushroom sprouting from the grass. How does it manifest? Due to the warmth and moisture of summer, the part of the horsetail that is submerged in water swells, while the part that is not submerged remains as horsetail. Ants and insects transform into bees, and tadpoles turn into frogs, thus it is known. Therefore, the cause is not permanent. Because in summer, twigs, pebbles, and grain husks that enter an ant's nest transform into sentient beings. When accidental causes and accidental conditions come together, the result becomes a sentient being. Moreover, from good causes and conditions, good results also arise, just as a beautiful princess is born from a beautiful queen. This is what they believe. Those who assert the cessation of results, such as Kata's son Nogcian and Mipam Hair-Cloak, not only deny the existence of a previous life for present beings but also deny that the habitual tendencies of the mind arising from the elements are produced; rather, they arise spontaneously. Furthermore, no one sharpens thorns with tools, yet they naturally become sharp and long. The sun rises from the east, water flows downwards, and so on; these things have no cause, yet they arise spontaneously according to their inherent nature. After death, they vanish without a trace, so there is absolutely no result in a future life. This is what they believe. From the Tantra of Black Ishvara: 'The sun rises, rivers flow downwards, lentils are round, thorns are long and sharp, the peacock's plumage is brightly colored and beautiful, and the king's daughters are beautiful to behold. None of these were made by anyone; they arose spontaneously. Destruction is also non-existent; there is no future life. All of this is mere imputation, a sudden delusion.' Thus it is said. If that were the case, then composing scriptures would be meaningless, so when challenged, they reply as follows: Those on the side of annihilationism say that even if there is no mind from a previous life, the individual elements of the present existence have their own minds, so when they ripen into sentient beings, if one is accustomed to the nature of non-existence, then later, at death, the habitual tendencies of the four elements will not enter the mind, and one will be liberated, so the scriptures are meaningful. If one is not accustomed to non-existence, then at the time of death, when the four elements of the body—earth, water, fire, and wind—dissolve into the external elements, this consciousness will also be divided into four parts and lost again in the nature of afflictions.

The wise say, the nihilist says, if one understands the nature of non-existence, one will not be robbed by other treatises. Rather than laboring meaninglessly, it is more meaningful to refute for the sake of this life, and we expound the treatise of non-existence. Those who hold both of these views, such as Kata's son Nokchen, believe that all sentient beings initially arise from the realm of arising, dwell in the realm of arising in the middle, and finally disappear into the realm of arising, with nothing remaining. They believe that the realm of arising itself is the master of all. When dwelling in the realm, the nine non-dwellings dwell, so everything appears clearly. When arising from the realm of arising, the nine non-arisings arise, so external forms and various white, red, and other objects, internal sentient beings and mental discriminations, and various different bodies, the nine non-arisings arise. At the time of liberation, the nine non-liberations liberate, so all containers, contents, and sentient beings naturally disappear, and there is nothing that is not liberated. Destroyed things cannot return to the three realms again. Therefore, all beings suddenly arise from the realm in the beginning, now suddenly dwell in the realm, and finally suddenly liberate from the realm and do not return. Second, explaining the categories of these in detail, it is said in 'Wisdom Arising Itself': The wrong vehicle is like this, believing in three hundred and sixty aggregates of destruction, three hundred are explanations about the realm. Sixty views are like this: the Samkhyas say wrong views, the Vaisheshikas say self-cause, Kumaras say Great Ishvara, holding the treatise of the ear-piercing sect, practicing the secret five fires, burning the body with ghee and sesame in fire, asceticism on spear points, jumping and wrestling asceticism, cutting flesh on the body, practicing the behavior of dogs, and similarly, the subtle place of direct perception, the blessings of the Buddha appearing universally, are all wrong asceticism. The views of form are like this: believing that the agent is the cause, believing that the agent is the path, believing that permanence is a great meaning, believing in constancy and immutability, believing that the temporary is permanent, believing that the cause is permanent, believing that the result is permanent, believing that permanence itself depends on the path, believing that behavior is permanent, and believing in the annihilationist view in meaning.
