If you meditate on equality and selflessness, you will fall into a dull darkness. If you meditate on the letters of concentration, you will fall into the cycle of existence due to attachment. If you meditate on non-conceptual emptiness, you will fall into infinite annihilation. Although there are countless reasons for going astray, there is no greater pitfall than these. For the lineage (Lugu), there is no going astray. For the lineage of the path, it seems there is going astray. But in reality, there is not even one instance of going astray. The talk of cause and effect is also to cut off the path of straying. That is to say, yogis who have not seen the manifest appearance of awareness, the view, meditation, conduct, and result that take the mind as the path, and those who, even having seen it, cling to the extremes due to dull faculties, have the possibility of going astray. The way to cut off that straying is to establish awareness, self-luminous with its radiance, as the gaze upon the doors of the senses, free from the extremes of conceptual thought of existence and non-existence, and to settle the intention of self-purity and self-awakening within, thereby cutting off the straying. As it says in the Thal Gyur: "The essence of view is seeing, not being swayed by words of speculation." In the state of self-awakening and self-appearance, even if you meditate only slightly, you will not fall into subtle grasping. Therefore, by expanding widely and openly, clarifying thoroughly, without distraction, recognizing the wisdom of profound clarity, and meditating limitlessly, there will be no straying. As it says in the same text: "The meditation that does not go astray is when the doors of the senses are clear, not swayed by the thoughts of the mind, examining with wisdom itself, without losing oneself outwardly. It is not a distinct clarity, nor a separated emptiness, nor a continuous bliss, nor a neutral dullness, clear mindfulness is rest, distorted practice is straying, grasping flows comfortably inward, the clear form is grasping, colors, letters, transformations, etc., if these do not fall to any side, then that is meditation that does not go astray." In that state, whatever arises, whether it is conceptual thought or the dualistic appearances of the sense objects, is liberated through action. The way to cut off straying in that is to arise naturally and be liberated naturally, without intervening with rejection or remedy, without meditating on the benefits of recognition. At the time of whatever appears, by leaving it on the appearance itself, it is liberated in awareness, wide open, without distinction, awakened limitlessly, and no grasping clings to the dualistic dharmas. Like the power of a lion.

Completion Chapter: The unobstructed conduct of Dzogchen is not produced by doing; it culminates in non-attachment and self-liberation. So it is said. The fruit is the great self-perfected, primordially attained state; it is not cultivated from the beginning. Rather, by recognizing that this very awareness abiding in itself is the fruit, and by settling into it with a single decisive certainty, the possibility of straying is cut off. In that very text, it says: The habituation of Dzogchen is primordially existent; it is not produced by meditation; it culminates in immovability and non-mentation. The meaning of Dzogchen is difficult to realize; it cannot be found through symbolic words; it culminates in pith instructions and secret essence. The awareness of Dzogchen is non-conceptual; it is not realized through meditation; it culminates in a single great turning point. The self-arisen wisdom of Dzogchen is not accomplished through practice; it culminates in the two certain heart essences. The fruit of Dzogchen is a single decisive certainty; it is not perfected through generation; it culminates in the three non-attached instructions. So it is said. Third, the way awareness appears at the door: From the two, awareness and appearance, awareness is called appearing at the door when one looks at one's own sound or recognizes one's own arising. At that time, the basis of activity dissolves into its ground, so that it is clear and without distraction, wide and spacious, and remains open and clear. As it says in the Jeweled Net: From the door, the path arises, and dissolves into the nature of emptiness equal to space. Although the wisdom of meaning appears generally, it is perfected in its nature and arises from its nature. So it is said. Appearance emerges from the door as light, forms, bindus, and so on. As it says in that very text: Then, when it emerges from the door, the nature of the sphere is the form of wisdom, the nature of awareness is the form of skillful means, appearing manifestly without gathering or separation, the great essence of unceasing, unobstructedness, not abiding like a majestic form, but the essence is the pure expanse of wisdom, the dharma nature of great emptiness enjoying objects. The clear, transparent dharmakaya is empty in essence. At the time of emptiness, the nature is uncertain, forms and wisdom mandalas are without concepts, skillful means and wisdom do not change in meaning. The lamp of emptiness is free from both action and effort. The lamp of compassion arises like the rays of the sun. The rays of the lamp have no end. The secret light is clear within the supreme heart. The light of nature is clear in the expanse of the sky. The light of the self-perfected mandala is the same. So it is said. Fourth, time
