mind, and the mind that is difficult to resist like Garjin, and the mind that has no object like a madman, there are eleven in total. These are also, in order, like water because they gather various objects and imprints, like a pig because they are ignorant of what to take and discard, like a tiger because anger and arrogance are coarse, like a bird's feather because they engage in many objects but are not fixed in one place, like wind because there is no obstruction to movement, like intoxication because they are attached to objects, like fire because conceptual thoughts spread from one to many, like a bird because they want to accept objects, like a branch because the ability of knowledge expands and analyzes the meaning, like Garjin because the object seizes awareness and becomes subject to it, and like the mind of a madman because the awareness of the object at the end of a branch floats without an object. These are also gathered into the three minds of virtue, non-virtue, and neutral due to objects and conditions. Mind arises from thought, and there are six minds for thought that seeks everywhere. Third, the division of afflictions that arise from that (thought) is threefold: the six root afflictions, the sixteen secondary afflictions, and the subtle, expansive, clear, and infinite afflictions. The first, from the "Union of Sun and Moon Sutra": There are six afflictions, namely ignorance, which is grasping onto the part of the basis of confused conceptualization. Delusion is confusion from the part of wisdom. Hatred is confusion from the part of the generation stage. Pride is confusion from the part of view. Desire is confusion from the part of appearance. Jealousy is confusion from the part of non-understanding. These are also, in order, the ignorance of the confused conceptual part of the object and the object-possessor, and the lack of understanding that is slightly deviated from wisdom and awareness, and the part that has hatred towards the object, and the arrogance of thinking "I", and the attachment to the object, and the anger towards others due to not understanding the meaning. The second, the sixteen secondary afflictions, from the "Self-Arisen Sutra": What are the sixteen? Ignorance, mind, thought, grasping, conceptualization, not understanding, not seeing, not comprehending, not knowing, one's own incorrectness, grasping onto "I", being stingy towards others, desire, attachment, pride, and agitation, these sixteen. These are also, in order, being completely defiled by the ignorance of not knowing suchness, grasping the mind to the object, and grasping the thought to the object-possessor.

And, clinging to both, and, universal conceptualization, and, ignorance of meaning, and, not seeing the reality to be cultivated, and, not understanding the meaning of words, and, not understanding the general characteristics, and, knowing it to be a mistake, the previous aspect of the meaning of the vow being mistaken, and, clinging to the object as self, and, not liking the perfection of others, and, accepting the object, and, especially craving for the object, and, being arrogant and conceited with a little, and, being angry and wrathful towards the object. Third, there are three kinds of subtle, extensive, clear, and infinite afflictions: twenty-five, fifty-one, and eighty-four thousand. The first is that since the root ignorance pervades everything, it is not counted separately. Instead, the five poisons that are pervaded are each divided into five, so there are twenty-five. As it says in Rangshar: There are five kinds of delusion: extremely obscured delusion, unknowing delusion, unseen delusion, extremely dense delusion, and extremely intoxicated delusion. There are also five kinds of desire: desire for hatred, extremely burning desire, desire that does not look at life, desire accompanied by hatred, and desire that acts in the sky. There are also five kinds of hatred: hatred with strong desire, hatred accompanied by anger, extremely coarse hatred, hatred accompanied by delusion, and hatred like seasonal thunder and rain. There are also five kinds of pride: pride that suppresses others like a lion, pride that is like the sky with nothing above it, pride that is brave like a tiger, pride that thinks "I" like a vulture, and pride that considers inequality as equality like an elephant. There are also five kinds of jealousy: subtle jealousy, jealousy arising from self, extremely violent jealousy, coarse jealousy, and jealousy in view. These are the twenty-five afflictions. The second, fifty-one, is that in this way, there are twenty-five afflictions with the object as the object of perception, and twenty-five afflictions with the subject as the subject of perception, totaling fifty. The root ignorance and one root arise. The third, eighty-four thousand, is that twenty-one thousand arise from desire, and twenty-one thousand arise from hatred.
