It says, "The mind is what gathers all habits. The mind is what arouses all habits. The mind is what accumulates all afflictions. The mind is the basis of all habits, and those habits are difficult to stop, obscuring one's own appearances, coexisting with ignorance." Also, in the "String of Pearls," it says: "Because the mind arises from aggregation, it is also mixed with impurities. The mind that gathers the base, etc., is counted among the impurities." Thus, because there is a mind that obscures awareness, it is called a sentient being. This mind accumulates karma, causing delusion upon delusion, creating karma in one cycle after another. When this mind is liberated from awareness and completely purified, it is called a Buddha, because awareness is free from impurities. Therefore, the true dharma of impurity to be abandoned is only the mind. As it says in the same text: If the mind is separated, one becomes a Buddha, The impurities of all beings are exhausted. Beings go by means of the mind, Without it, they cannot go elsewhere. Therefore, beings are like a revolving wheel. Thus, that mind is also divided into the mind that grasps the object, which apprehends the appearance of this and that object, holding onto signs, names, and general characteristics, and the mind that apprehends the subject, which judges its differences and analyzes it in detail. Therefore, it is said that the mind is what apprehends the object. These necessities are also mentioned in the common scriptures: "When the mind ceases, it is manifested by the body." As it says in the "Clear Words": "The activity of the mind and what arises from the mind also ceases." As it says in the "Heap of Jewels": "It is also separated from mind, intellect, and consciousness, and does not abandon the state of samadhi. This is the inconceivable secret of the Tathagata's heart." Wisdom is, like the sky, pacified from elaboration, the basis and source of immeasurable Buddha-dharmas, constantly abiding in the palace of the Dharmakaya together with the retinue of the ocean of wisdom, burning all the thickets of afflictions and habits, existing like fire. As it says in the "String of Pearls": "Burning all discriminations, wisdom itself consumes like fire, it is like the sky itself, it is the nature of emptiness, clarity, and awareness." Here, some who do not understand, think that if there is no mind, it becomes an inanimate object or...

To say "it changes like a faint," is also due to little hearing, because even without mind, there is wisdom, so awareness does not cease. Moreover, because the mind deluded by ignorance ceases, the sun of clear wisdom rises, just as night passes and day rises. Some people think that ignorance is the pervader of awareness, so when the mind ceases, awareness also ceases, which is a very big mistake. Although awareness pervades ignorance, ignorance does not pervade awareness in return, just like the wisdom of the Buddha. Because the mind is pervaded by ignorance, it can be regarded as the pervader of the mind, but because it does not pervade awareness, it is thought that ignorance retreats or ceases from the essence of awareness. Therefore, when the mind ceases, the basic ignorance ceases together with its parts, but awareness does not cease, because the basis of cessation is awareness. If there is no awareness, then it should be considered on what it ceases. Here, because ignorance ceases together with the part of the mind, awareness increases into wisdom, enjoying the two knowledges, as it is said in the Garland of Pearls: The mind is free from all movement, not like an inanimate object, knowing and aware, with light appearing. Therefore, mind and wisdom are separate, and in the common scriptures it is also said: Mind and mind-nature are naturally pure, divided into two. Among them, mind is the Dharma of conceptual thought and samsara, mind-nature is the Dharma of freedom from elaboration and nirvana, as it is said in the Holy Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita: On the mind there is no mind, the nature of mind is luminosity. On the mind, it means summarizing the basis, that is, expressing it as the abiding mode of the essence, mind is the Dharma of defilement with elaboration and conceptual thought, such as distraction and concentration, and the entry into the upper realms, etc., are all without self-nature. The nature of mind, the abiding mode of mind, mind-nature, these are different names, that is, its nature abides in luminous wisdom. Those fools who do not understand the distinction between mind and mind-nature also claim to understand the scriptures, these people are only full of pride. In this way, after clearly distinguishing between mind and wisdom, in the common vehicle with characteristics, although mind is taken as the basis, path, and fruit, all of that has not reached the true meaning, therefore, in this vehicle.
