Sole. Black cannot be transformed. Once confidence in familiarity with it is gained, like a rainbow in the sky, the colors do not mix and are completely perfect. Then, again, through the power of habit, for those who possess its signs, the realm of space is also the same. Thus it is said. Fourth, regarding the Lamp of Self-Arisen Wisdom, there are eight aspects: essence, definition, classification, characteristics, gate, place, measure, and analogy. First, the essence is: the knower of all lamps, the intention, the nature of reality, emptiness and clarity, self-abiding, with the skill of knowing. As a method, the distant connection, the bindu, and the three realms are fixed without moving. Inwardly, self-awareness is clear and distinct, the self-abiding intention, the wisdom of spontaneous perfection, is the cause of the lamp burning. The Lamp of Self-Arisen Wisdom is: Thus, the knower of all lamps, abides in the position of knowing, therefore, for all parts, this is the very one. Because it is the very wisdom that distinguishes, therefore, it abides in a state of non-discrimination. In the essence of generating subtle parts, it has existed from the very beginning. Thus it is said. Second, the definition is: inwardly, the self-abiding, spontaneously accomplished intention, when known, the outward appearance is known as self-appearance, transparently. Knowing the general characteristic of all dharmas to be emptiness and selflessness, and knowing the measure of one's own wisdom, therefore it is called "knowing." "Supreme" refers to the intention that is difficult for all to realize, obtained from oneself without searching, therefore it is the most excellent, the pinnacle. "Self" refers to obtaining the jewel that has been present within oneself from the beginning. "Arisen" refers to arising spontaneously without cessation. "Lamp" refers to clearly knowing all dharmas. "Mother" refers to pervading and knowing self-appearance as one's own nature. Again, from that very text: Through knowing, for all appearances of existence and non-existence, completely entering, and knowing the meaning of the whole, and gaining confidence in abiding without searching, knowing the measure of one's own wisdom. The Dharmakaya, pure in nature, not attained by anyone, through self-knowing, appears supremely excellent from all. Because there is no place for others to examine, self-arisen, the originally pure mother, not the object of others, is called "self." Because this meaning cannot be obtained through action, because it does not rely on anyone, originally self-appearing, it is called "arisen." The lamp makes all dharmata appear non-dual. "Mother" refers to pervading one's own nature. Thus it is said. Also, from the Garland of Pearls: For example, like a burning lamp.
