It is reasonable. In the Klong drug pa, it says, "The essence is primordially pure, so sentient beings' samsara is unreasonable, because the defilement of ignorance is completely exhausted." Therefore, it is the same as the previous six bases. Third, establishing the basis of primordial purity and spontaneous accomplishment as inseparable in our own system involves the actual meaning, and two aspects of refuting objections to it. First, the essence of primordial purity has spontaneous accomplishment as clear depth, so the essence of the inseparable aspect of primordial purity's awareness is not established as an object or characteristic. The subtle clear light of spontaneously accomplished nature abides inwardly clear. The essence of appearance is emptiness, the nature of emptiness is clarity, and the heart of clarity is awareness, that is, body and wisdom are primordially inseparable, abiding like the essence of the sun. The essence is pure from the beginning, and the nature is spontaneously accomplished, considered inseparable. In the Rang shar, it says: "The basis is spoken of as having two aspects: the great basis of primordial purity, and the basis of various spontaneous accomplishments." Also, in the Klong drug pa, it says, "The essence is primordially pure, and the nature is spontaneously accomplished." Also, in the Muti tig phreng ba, it says, "The essence of primordial purity is beyond expression, and the nature of spontaneous accomplishment is complete in whatever appears." Secondly, refuting objections to that has two aspects: number and self-nature. First, in terms of number, there are two aspects: objection and answer. The objection is: it would be a fault to be eight bases. The answer is: primordial purity and spontaneous accomplishment are considered inseparable, and that is included in the seven bases, so we do not consider it to be separate from that, so there is no fault of becoming eight bases. Also, it is not contradictory to "self-nature is pure from the beginning," because the essence is considered to be primordial purity, so it is related. Secondly, there are two aspects to the objection and answer regarding the inseparability of self-nature, primordial purity, and spontaneous accomplishment. First, establishing the objection: primordial purity and spontaneous accomplishment each have faults, so if self-nature is primordial purity, since there has never been samsara, it would be unreasonable for sentient beings to arise in delusion. Since nature is spontaneously accomplished, anyone would be effortlessly and naturally liberated. And, primordial purity and spontaneous accomplishment would be contradictory substances on one basis. The answer is: the essence is pure from the beginning, so sentient beings do not have samsara, but it is not contradictory that it appears that way merely as the play or manifestation of spontaneous accomplishment. Just as the self-nature of consciousness before falling asleep and during sleep does not have dreams, it is not contradictory that horses and cattle appear in appearance. Also, the appearance as sentient beings is merely a play of illusion, not real.

Since it is not established in its essence, it is already primordially liberated. In the illusory appearances of relative truth, when what appears as horses and cattle is liberated by the power of eye mantras, it is effortlessly left in its own place, just as it naturally returns to its original wood and pebbles. From the moment it appears to be liberated into the expanse, it is merely the return of what appears to be returning. There is no newly arising liberation, because bondage is not established. Furthermore, from the aspect of appearance, it is spontaneously accomplished in relative truth, and from the aspect of emptiness, it is primordially pure in ultimate truth. These are merely expressed in words. Since these two are not different entities, they do not transform separately. The essence is one, but the aspects are different. Just as a Brahmin is a human being, and also an ordained person because he possesses vows, these two are not contradictory. The refutation of these is also found in the "Six Spaces": "Since the essence itself is primordially pure, sentient beings' samsara is unreasonable. Because the defilement of ignorance is primordially exhausted, the Teacher spoke of the great-hearted ones. Since the nature is spontaneously accomplished, it also appears unceasingly as play." The Bodhisattva himself also asked: "If the nature itself is spontaneously accomplished, these sentient beings should naturally be liberated, since it is primordially spontaneously accomplished." It is said that these sentient beings, since their essence is pure from the beginning, the liberated ones also appear as play. The Bodhisattva also asked: "Since the essence itself is primordially pure, spontaneous accomplishment becomes unnecessary. Or, since it is spontaneously accomplished, there would be no primordial purity." The Teacher said that the way of abiding is such that there are no words to express it, because it is separated from expressible sounds and words, and because it is not established as the essence of anything, words cannot harm it. In the mind of sentient beings' self-grasping, since various memories and thoughts do not cease, there is no difference between the harm of words and the essence. It is for the sake of ultimate and relative terms. So it is. The second meaning, the supreme and unsurpassed ground is explained in detail, with three parts: a common brief explanation, a detailed explanation of each part, and a summary of the meaning. First, the initial ground, the essence is primordially pure like a flawless crystal ball, and the nature of spontaneously accomplished, which is not established as things and characteristics, has a subtle self-radiance deep and clear within the white, but because there are no conditions, it does not appear outwardly. Outwardly, like a young child whose milk has not been cut off, like a vase, it abides in the state of the body. The essence is empty from the beginning, and although there are no things, the subtle awareness is the self-radiance of primordial awareness, which is not...
