If transgressed, accomplishments are lost, and even if diligently practiced elsewhere, they are difficult to attain. Therefore, promises made for the sake of the Dharma, vows made before the Guru, virtuous deeds contemplated in the mind, if one abandons these, accomplishments decline. Thus it is said. In the Tantra of the Supreme Tree Arranging Vows, it is said: Do not transgress the vows you have made, do not break the Guru's promises, do not reverse the Guru's actions, and do not do anything with your body, speech, and mind that is different from the Dharma. One should work for the benefit of all sentient beings, always respect the Guru, and not transgress the supreme vows. Hold the vajra and bell, and hold the substances appropriate for mantra. In general, from the root vows, regarding what should be kept secret, what is entrusted, secret promises and vows, if one engages in wrong conduct with speech or mind, this will also become a cause for the uninterrupted hell. The special Dharma that arises from empowerment, do not proclaim it to others, apply it to your own mind. Do not do anything with body, speech, or mind that harms the Guru's mind. Likewise, do not harm or injure vajra brothers and sisters. Thus it is said. Thus, guarding the twenty-seven vows by distinguishing between body, speech, and mind is the special Dharma of this. Furthermore, in the Madhyamaka, it is said: Furthermore, the discipline of vows is explained. The Guru, the Buddha, the objects of offering, the Dharma and the Sangha, the yidam deity, the vajra dakinis, etc., the tsok and offerings should not be interrupted. If you see a Guru who possesses the qualities, you should offer praise and complete offerings. Do not slander women, do not be angry. Do not slander the aggregates, rely on the yidam. Relying on the mandala, mantra, and deity, and mudra is truly correct. Do not destroy the assembly of faithful ones, do not disturb the minds of the virtuous, and abide in vows with discipline. Furthermore, the stages of learning are as follows: one should perfect the actions of the body, speech should be well restrained, and the mind should be stable, observing, and analyzing. One should perform the stages of entering in order, always perform the actions of anointing and holding the mantra, and place the channels in the net of bindus. Rosaries, necklaces, half-rings, etc., should be beautiful and hang the wheels. One should take the chief of supreme accomplishments and act with the wheel of adornment in the six places. One should diligently practice these without transgression or decline. If one transgresses these, the faults are immeasurable. In the Tantra of the Precious Wheel Successively Accumulated, it is said:

If the samaya of the body is transgressed, It is separated from the words called the Buddha's body. Like this, all sentient beings of the three realms, Compared to cutting off their lives at once, The sin of committing a root downfall is infinitely greater. Similarly, if the samaya of speech is broken, The words of the Buddha's speech will not remain. Compared to cutting off the tongues of all sentient beings of the three realms At once, this sin is infinitely greater. If the samaya of the mind is also broken, Compared to disturbing the meditators who fill the three realms, The monks who abide in virtue, Disturbing their minds and making them disgusted at once, This sin will become much greater. So it is said. In particular, the downfall related to relying on the lama is more serious. From the glorious Inexhaustible Sky Tantra: If it is without an evil mind, Due to loss of mindfulness, dreaming, Or non-virtues committed due to carelessness, One should confess to the lama. The faults of the body are confessed with the body, Likewise, speech and mind as well. If one does not confess immediately, One will also experience the suffering of uninterrupted hell because of this. So it is said. Because the lama is the essence of all Buddhas, And because he shows me the unsurpassed Dharma that liberates from samsara in this life, he is an extremely important object. Therefore, one should practice as it is said, and one must abandon disbelief, wrong thoughts, harm, harsh words, and so on. The great scholar Garab Dorje said: The supreme lama taught thus: Even if one knows the faults of wrongdoing, One should do as it is said. Likewise, for the lama's activities, Even if one suffers the greatest physical pain, One should strive to do it with one's own ability. Even for a moment, One should not disturb the lama's mind. For the lama's food and wealth, One should cherish them as much as one's own life, The yogi should always do this. If in the lama's pure land, Teaching the Dharma, giving empowerments, consecrating, And things like meditating on contemplation, Without permission, one should not do them on one's own. In short, whatever one does with body, speech, and mind, Without asking the lama, without permission, One should not do even a little bit. Furthermore, whatever virtuous deeds, One should ask the lama before starting. In all yogic conduct, One should not be separated from the supreme lama. Whenever one eats the three times' food, One should offer the essence of the one-third portion, To the supreme lama. For wealth and precious jewels, For the lama Vajradhara, One should not be stingy.
