We remain inseparable from the state of realizing spontaneous accomplishment, and all phenomena arise from the sole state of the wisdom of fundamental awareness. They appear within awareness and are liberated within awareness, without anything else. Deciding this is the four great samayas, which are taught as the distinguishing characteristics of this Great Perfection. As it says in the Tantra of the Heap of Jewels, in the branch that teaches that very thing: One should guard the two kinds of samaya. By doing all of this first, one enters into the king of supreme vehicles. Furthermore, the samaya of Trekchö is non-existence and mixture, while the samaya of Tögal is spontaneous presence and oneness. Differentiating them separately, again, as it says in that very text: At that time, exceeding the limits of guarding, non-existence, oneness, and mixture, that will become its friend. Also, from the Root Completion: The sphere of activity of great wisdom is: in non-existence, one practices non-existence; in oneness, one practices oneness; in mixture, one practices mixture; in spontaneous presence, there is spontaneous presence. Samaya, samaya, it is said, is not something that exists separately; when one realizes the meaning of one's own appearances, it is called the king of samayas. So it is. Sixth, there are two ways to protect: protecting without ever degenerating, like the way of the Vajra King, and protecting by restoring it after it has degenerated, like the way of the precious excellent vase. The first is the way of holy individuals, seeing the benefits and drawbacks, having great shame and embarrassment, and guarding with great steadfastness, not transgressing the boundaries of what is definitely to be abandoned and adopted, with pure mindfulness and awareness. As it says in Rangshar: One abides exactly in the samaya, and does not let it go even for an eon. That is the means of guarding the great samaya. So it is. The second is the way of some intermediate individuals, fearing the faults of degeneration, and being delighted in the benefits of guarding, restoring it through restoration. Among these, the vows of the Hearers are like a broken clay pot that cannot be repaired, and the vows of the Bodhisattvas are like a broken clay vessel that can only be glued together. However, the vows of Secret Mantra, like a dented precious vessel that can be straightened, are restored by being filled, which is taught as being the most excellent. However, this is considered to be the same continuum of vows. If it needs to be taken later, it is called unrestored, because it has become necessary to take it from the beginning.

Keeping vows is merely a matter of restoration, not something that fundamentally needs correction. Therefore, if one makes effort, it is the key to liberation in one lifetime. Otherwise, obscurations will not allow you to be liberated. So, what are the methods of purification? The *Self-Arisen Tantra* says: "If the teacher breaks vows, a vast feast gathering should be performed. The same applies to vajra siblings." That is to say, the methods of purification are as follows: "Perform the ritual of a hundred lamps, recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra, and perform various kinds of confession." And, "Offer substances that please the teacher, and offer whatever wealth you have to the noble ones." These are in terms of the disciple. If the teacher breaks vows, there is no remedy, because the very basis of confession has been broken, which is harmful to both teacher and student. If the disciple breaks vows, there is a remedy, because one can rely on the teacher to confess, and it does not harm the teacher, because there is a difference in the hierarchy of the support. As the *Self-Arisen Tantra* says: "If the teacher breaks vows, there is no method of purification. Both will be born with great weeping and wailing. If the disciple breaks vows, there is a method of purification. It is said that one should read vast scriptures, perform vast feast gatherings, and purify the three spheres completely." Regarding purification through confession, it also says in the same text: "If one makes confession in this way, all wishes will be fulfilled, all desires will be satisfied, and all activities will be perfected." And, "If such signs have appeared beforehand, perform the confession mentioned above. If you do, you will attain the accomplishment of averting obstacles." These are in terms of common situations. If a disciple breaks vows towards the vajra master, it is said that one can only alleviate the fault through confession, but one must experience the consequences in any case. The *Supreme Secret Vow Tantra* says: "A person who reviles the vajra master, even if they confess, will be tormented in the lower realms due to the residue of karma. Therefore, strive to protect them." Therefore, in general, vows are said to be the basis of qualities, so they must be unbroken and pure. The *Friendly Letter* says: "Discipline is like the earth, the foundation for wealth and immortality, therefore it is said to be a good foundation for qualities." In particular, the basis of the secret mantra vehicle is only pure vows, so it is very important to protect them purely. Vajrasatt
