Thus, coarse and subtle cease. When the expanse of awareness dawns, body and mind cease. So it is said. Second, the specific explanation of how to practice with the four methods of abiding has two parts: a brief explanation of the essence of how to practice, and a detailed explanation of its nature. First: From the *Unwritten Scripture*. Also, son of lineage, go beyond the great city and abide in a hermitage in the great expanse of the forest. Having separated from outer and inner activities, if you do not separate from the four great ways of holding the view, you will not separate from the truth of the Buddha, so without a bardo, you will attain enlightenment in a single instant. The door of his compassion does not cease, and great emanations spread in the ten directions. Also, it should be understood in this way. The view of abiding like a mountain king, and the thought of abiding like an ocean king, and the instruction of abiding like awareness, and the method of showing appearances as abiding, so it is said. Second, of the four, the first, the view of abiding like a mountain king, is to settle clearly and distinctly in the nature of the expanse of awareness without changing the definitive thought. From that very tantra: The view of abiding like a mountain king is secret. It is not doubt, its nature does not change. It is completely clear in the nature of space itself. The nature of the meaning is that very awareness. It is not made, where is the maker? It is not fabricated, there is no owner of fabrication. It is not a view, the viewer is separate from dharma. It is not seeing, the seer is completely clear. It is not appearing, it is separate from the side of appearance. It is not stain, it is unobstructed and expands in the ten directions. It is not effort, effort and accomplishment are separate from dharma. It is not one, it is separate from the dharma of many. There is no outer and inner, it is clear without outer and inner. It is not the seer, it transcends the two of permanence and annihilation. Because there is no view in it, there is nothing to see. It does not stray from the meaning, the view is naturally absent. It is not existent, it abides in its nature. So it is said. Second, the thought of abiding like an ocean king is: in the ocean of tears, when the images of empty forms, planets, and stars appear, without the waves of grasping at affirmation, negation, attachment, and clinging, knowing clearly and brightly, practicing without contraction or expansion, is called looking at the top of the victory banner that does not sink in the ocean of profound dharma nature that is difficult to fathom. From the *Unwritten Scripture*: The thought of abiding like an ocean king is not appearing, it is not the one who makes appearances. It is not emptiness, it is not existent in emptiness.
