The appearance of the definitive is said to be the view free from acceptance and rejection, as taught by me, Samantabhadra. In the mind-essence free from taking and leaving, the appearance of unconfined self-liberation is said to be the view of great pervasiveness, as taught by me, Samantabhadra. In the mind-essence free from sinking and excitement, the awareness of great equanimity is said to be the view of the six aggregates being relaxed, as taught by me, Samantabhadra. In the mind-essence free from fear, the appearance free from hope and doubt is said to be the view of primordial abiding with confidence, as taught by me, Samantabhadra. In the mind-essence free from the aspect of appearance, the appearance of a single subtle part is said to be the view of great freedom from elaboration, as taught by me, Samantabhadra. Thus, these are also the self-nature free from elaboration, and when its potential manifests, do not examine outwardly, do not investigate inwardly, do not settle in between. Merely by recognizing the nature of awareness as naked, clear, and free from grasping and conceptualization, one realizes that the self-nature free from elaboration is itself the naked state, and there is nothing else. This is the self-arisen wisdom of non-duality. If, by speaking of essence and its potential, one thinks that awareness has both abiding and arising, and therefore leaves the essence in a state of non-conceptualization, and then says to cultivate the arising potential into liberation, resulting in practice falling into duality, then the essential point has not been understood. This is an expression of not meeting the true nature. Although here the self-nature and potential are spoken of as different, the appearance of objects in the self-nature is like the reflection of an image in a mirror. Therefore, since the substance is one and the essence is the one naked awareness, there is nothing else. Therefore, when cultivating the arising, the self-nature abides in its own ground of nakedness. Even when cultivating in a state that seems to be abiding, the clarity of awareness is not obstructed, and the way of arising is self-luminous, like a reflection. The arising awareness is naked, and the self-abiding awareness, like the surface of a mirror, is the self-arisen wisdom. These two are not separate, nor are they undifferentiated, but in the essence of the self-nature of naked, clear, free from elaboration, primordial purity, which is the exhaustion of the nature of phenomena, it is named self-arisen wisdom. It is also called the wisdom of clear light, the ultimate truth, the dharmakaya of primordial liberation, the mind of awakening awareness, and so on. No matter what name is given, one should recognize this essence as pure, naked, and primordially pure self-luminosity. The object to be expressed in this Great Perfection is that very reality, so it is called "Trekchö" (khregs chod, cutting through), called "naked," called "thoroughly clear," called "primordially liberated," called "primordially pure," and called "spontaneously present."
