Although it is called "Ba," from the various names, the meaning is this single, pure, and naked bindu. Therefore, this key point should be explained very clearly, because the ultimate intent of Nyingthig is this alone. When this key point is realized, there is no need to do anything specifically or make any effort. Therefore, this is called the Dharma of attaining Buddhahood without cultivation, because there is no object of cultivation and no cultivator, no object of protection and no protector, and so on. This meaning transcends all those who have not been liberated from the practice of focusing inward and radiating outward, from the view, practice, and conduct of grasping and fixation. This is self-arisen wisdom, free from elaboration. As Khyungen said: "All dharmas are free from elaboration and without defilement, this key point of self-liberation without effort is extremely important." Similarly, in "Simultaneous Arising" it is said: "Various natures are non-dual, parts themselves are also free from elaboration. Although not conceived as 'suchness,' yet it is the all-illuminating Vajrasattva. Grasping it, abandoning the disease of effort, abiding spontaneously is abiding." And in "The All-Creating King" it is said: "How it appears is just as it is, let no one alter this. In the unaltered, equal king, abide in the inconceivable intent of the Dharmakaya." The distinction between the power of compassion and the grasping and fixation of conceptualization is that: the awareness arising from the power is the mind of elaboration, from which arise various habits of grasping and fixation. Grasping the objectless as having an object, hence the five objects; grasping the selfless as having a self, hence the five poisons. All the illusions of outer and inner realms, appearing in samsara, also arise from the power. Because of not realizing and wrongly grasping, hence the appearance. Awareness is the nature of compassion, transparent and naked, like a clear mirror. Because of not realizing the pure power of compassion arising from manifestation, from the power arise the two-fold conceptualizations of momentary arising and ceasing of objects. The subtle parts of clarity and non-cessation are confused into one, if not grasping at the arising of awareness, it is wisdom; if grasping, it is called conceptualization. Therefore, letting go or viewing the arising is the vast emptiness without seeing the edges, called the elephant stretching out. Here, the distinction between the two is that: just as an image appears in a mirror, when an object appears to awareness, the naked knowing that has not spread into conceptual thought is compassion.

It is called "the skill of wisdom's plan." Because of not understanding it, the knowledge that is projected outwards onto objects is called "the conceptual thought of grasping and being grasped." Because of being accustomed to grasping at objects, the illusory appearances of external objects become powerful and manifest in various ways. Because of grasping at the inner mind, afflictions manifest as the five poisons, and karma and afflictions each form their own cycles of illusory appearances. Therefore, since awareness has not moved from its self-illuminating state, and there is a difference from being lost onto objects, there is a great chance of error on the same basis. As it says in "The Lion's Complete Skill": For the king of self-appearing means, since the power of awareness is unceasing, ask your own wisdom. The samadhi without object, ask in the state free from activity and effort. The mind of object-clarity, primordially without beginning, ask in the completely pure expanse. This is shown as the meaning of the intention. The root of the all-ground mind, and the root of self-awareness of objects, these two, on a similar basis, there is a great chance of error. Ignorance appearing as mind, and awareness appearing without thought, these two, on the same basis, there is a great chance of error. As it says in "The Six Spaces": Self-awareness free from thought, and the various arising feelings of the mind, these two, similar, similar, easy to mistake. Wisdom's own power complete, and the mind's thoughts lost outwards, these two, similar, similar, easy to mistake. This key point is very important, distinguishing the difference is the domain of those who possess the eye of wisdom. Even though it is explained clearly in this way, if one does not understand or relies on the opposite side, then, as Saraha said: How can a sentient being understand the world? It is certain that one will fall into what he said. Now, for the realized yogi, the key point that appearances are merely the play of illusion, without attachment, is: From where it has not come, to where it has not gone, nowhere does it abide, in the great expanse of the nature of reality. Realizing the three realms are completely liberated, it is called the intention. The words of Ati Lhundrup Dorje Nyingpo, arise from the expanse of Kunsang Yangpa Chenpo. For the yogi who directly realizes the meaning of this Great Perfection, awareness is purely naked, so even though object-appearances appear back on the face of awareness, awareness does not get lost outwards onto the objects of appearance, the root of grasping and being grasped, the cycle of existence, is emptied, awareness is purely naked and awakened, and does not get lost onto objects.
