Because of the great accumulation of merit through benefiting others, generate Bodhicitta, teach the Dharma, and be a protector, refuge, and ally for beings. Because of the great accumulation of the absence of conceptual focus to eliminate self-grasping, abandon the ego and arrogance, and do not cling to appearances. Because of the great accumulation of practicing the true nature of reality, ultimately accomplish the Three Jewels in their ultimate meaning. If you practice in this way, you will quickly attain Buddhahood. The six ways of destroying oneself are: Not listening to the advice of loving speech, like a turtle's neck slipping from the yoke, leads to ruin. Doing evil deeds and desiring happiness, like swallowing poison and desiring comfort, leads to ruin. Abandoning the lama and relying on bad companions, like abandoning the guide and going among enemies, leads to ruin. When the Dharma of the gods descends, practicing worldly dharma, like inheriting the kingdom and herding livestock, leads to ruin. It is very important not to go that way. The six things not to do, advising oneself, are: Do not go to the city, but rely on solitary mountain retreats. Do not pursue worldly dharma, but possess the three doors of peace and tranquility. Do not be wild-minded, but direct the mind towards the Dharma. Do not be shameless, but fulfill the vows you have taken. Do not break vows, but honor the lama and Dharma friends. Do not be depressed, but be broad and open-minded. It is very important to sleep in a bed of contentment. The six things to think well about "not being able to bear" are: The aged, kind father, the kind lama, because you cannot bear to forget them, receive their blessings and offer prayers. The aged, kind mother, the sentient beings of the six realms, because you cannot bear their suffering, guide them to the path of great bliss. This precious human body with leisure and opportunity, because you cannot bear to waste it, use it for the benefit of others' virtuous deeds. The supreme friends and the accomplished yidam deities, because you cannot bear to be separated from them, always associate with them respectfully. This supreme, self-arisen wisdom, the beautiful young child, because you cannot bear to be deluded, firmly grasp the ground of Dharma. This inherent mind, the precious jewel like a wish-fulfilling gem, because you cannot bear to lose it, cherish and protect it without distraction. If you want to maintain permanence, these six instructions are very important. The six faults of not reaching the ultimate Dharma are: Although you do not want the suffering of being born in samsara, it will happen like a water bubble cannot prevent being stepped on. Although you do not want the suffering of aging and decay, it will come like a flower withered by frost. Although you do not want the intense suffering of illness, it will come like a golden-eyed fish being rubbed by sand. Although you do not want the suffering of separation from loved ones, it will come like a mother monkey losing her child.

Ah! Although one does not wish for the suffering caused by the mingling of enemies, it comes like a small bird being chased by a magpie. Although one does not wish for the intense suffering of death, it comes like a candle being blown by the wind. Thinking about these things, strive to practice the Dharma. The six instructions that one cannot obtain even if one wishes are: With one's wife, children, relatives, and family, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to be together, separation is certain. In this excellent dwelling, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to reside here, departure is certain. With this happiness and enjoyment, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to enjoy it, it is certain to be abandoned. This precious leisure and endowment of human life, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to remain permanent, death is certain. With this excellent lama, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to listen to the Dharma, separation is certain. With all the noble and virtuous friends, at all times, although one wishes not to be separated and to be together, separation is certain. Therefore, from this very day, make preparations for diligent effort, hoping to travel to the realm of inseparable great bliss. To all my friends who deeply feel renunciation, I, a Dharma-less beggar, urge you in this way. The six Dharmas that come involuntarily are: For the Dharmas of samsara, discard them behind you without any need. The bliss of nirvana will come involuntarily, even if you do not wish it. With impartial faith and diligence towards the white Dharmas, happiness and the sacred Dharma will come involuntarily, even if you do not wish it. Whatever you do, practice according to the words of the holy lama, and profound instructions will come involuntarily, even if you do not wish it. Cultivate your mind with the four immeasurables, and benefiting others and working for the welfare of beings will come involuntarily, even if you do not wish it. Abandon desire and give away whatever you have in gatherings, and enjoyment and wealth will come involuntarily, even if you do not wish it. Meditate on the Buddha's intention, which is without union or separation, and the illusion of self-grasping will naturally become empty. If you practice according to the scriptures, it will certainly be so. The six necessary Dharmas that one should contemplate well are: For the illusions of samsara, one must have a revulsion like vomiting, and one must have a renunciation like seeing a rotten corpse and mud. For non-virtuous and evil deeds, one must be cautious like a newly arrived bride. For non-Dharmic actions, one must have a feeling of regret, like a person who has drunk poison remembering the suffering. For afflictions, one must be able to suppress and overcome them, and one needs an antidote like the king of beasts. For whatever thoughts arise, one must be able to liberate them in their own place, and one needs to be like salt dissolving in a drop of water.
