The Treasury of Precious Instructions. The Treasury of Precious Instructions. Herein lies the treatise entitled "The Treasury of Precious Instructions." In Indian language: Upadesha Ratna Kosha Nama. In Tibetan language: Named "The Treasury of Precious Instructions." Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. With the great ship of supreme compassion and wisdom, having crossed to the far shore of the ocean of the three realms, the guide who has perfectly departed to the high ground of wish-fulfillment, I pay homage to all Buddhas and their offspring. For those fortunate ones who desire the supreme liberation, having gathered the essence of sutras, tantras, and instructions, and completely revealed the profound key points, listen respectfully as it is explained in six sets of six. First, the six dharmas for entering [the path] are: guarding the three trainings as the foundation of the path, engaging in diverse hearing and thinking without bias, pacifying the three doors and taming one's own mind, being ashamed of evil and increasing virtue, generating shame and faith, and relying on virtuous friends and companions; these are extremely important for beginners. Then, if one wishes to dwell alone in seclusion, the six dharmas for preparation are essential: being able to be independent, separated from the lama, having no doubts or obstacles to eliminate, having no illnesses, evil spirits, or hindrances in the body, having emerged well from the crowd of worldly affairs, possessing the instructions for accomplishing the two benefits, and having certainty in the view. Then, the six dharmas for relying on a monastery are: a place that is secluded and complete with qualities, trodden by the feet of previous accomplished ones, where oath-bound ones gather because there is no decline in practice, where there are no causes for distraction or busyness, where it is easy to obtain favorable conditions and resources, and where there is no harm from humans or non-humans. Then, the six substances for obtaining favorable conditions are: food and drink, a livelihood that does not fall to either extreme, a collection of necessary offerings and practice materials, complete books of profound instructions, auspicious substances for averting obstacles, all necessary components complete, and no attachment to many material possessions. Then, the six dharmas for excellent and harmonious companions are: having a good lineage and a tamed nature, possessing faith, diligence, and great wisdom, having compatible practices and being comfortable to associate with, having little pride and

Subduing, maintaining pure vows, having great pure perception, relying on a spiritual friend with great compassion and profound secrets. The ultimate practice is the six excellent dharmas: relying on the support (of scriptures), combining with scriptural authority, establishing reason, essential instructions, completing the stages of the path, universally gathering high and low, and being free from extremes. The six dharmas of persevering in practice to the end are: even if killed, not turning away from the excellent dharma; even if sick, not generating wrong views; vows and face are not destroyed by obstacles; being able to mix the experience of calm abiding and insight with subsequent attainment; not abandoning diligence until accomplishment; being able to equally treat what should be abandoned and what should be embraced. Next are the six dharmas to be contemplated: all faults come from oneself; all suffering comes from past karma; past karma also comes from present conditions; bad conditions come from one's own conceptual thoughts; conceptual thoughts come from following illusory objects; therefore, contemplate that it obscures the path to liberation. The six dharmas of all sins being self-created are: the suffering of birth and death arises from oneself; the suffering of searching arises from not finding; the suffering of sustenance is created for oneself; by clinging to enemies and friends; the suffering of meeting enemies and separating from friends is self-created; the great suffering of the three lower realms; is not created by others, but by oneself. The six deluded dharmas of mistaken appearances and bad thoughts are: not subduing one's own mind, harm is endless; the appearance of harm is the impure self-appearance; following sounds, arbitrarily distinguishing the sound of emptiness; arbitrarily accepting and rejecting the mind that is left to itself; arbitrarily clinging to the uncertain happiness and suffering; anger and resentment burn one's own mind. The six great dharmas of reversing illusions are: generating patience and compassion for harm; not clinging to ghosts, knowing them as parents; practicing the skill of non-reality in clinging to illusions; cutting off the root of illusion—the root of the mind; transforming all appearing conditions into the path; not being distracted from ordinariness, relying on antidotes. The six dharmas of the dangers of the nature of samsara are: body and mind are not separated from suffering, there is no happiness; the suffering of this life, seeking it does not go away, there is no time to escape; not having control over one's own body, there is no meaning of happiness; long illness in youth, there is no opportunity for happiness; karma is not exhausted, the suffering of samsara.
