No sprout. Practice, study, thought, and wisdom must not be separated, If separated from these, doubts cannot be resolved. The dwelling place, a secluded mountainside, must not be separated, If separated from this, distractions and busyness will carry you away. Effort, perseverance, and vows must not be separated, If separated from these, there will be no time to attain qualities. Therefore, cherish not being separated. To rely on without separation, abandon the six demons: In relying on the lama, the demon of arrogance does not enter. In relying on the Three Jewels, the demon of disrespect does not enter. In relying on the monastery, the demon of indifference does not enter. In relying on study and thought, the demon of distraction does not enter. In relying on meditation, the demon of no progress does not enter. In relying on benefiting others, the demon of distraction does not enter. Seeming necessary, like stars in the daytime. The teaching of associating with the six companions of learning: The profound view of clear understanding is associated with the supreme, Without it, the nature of reality cannot be fully realized. The foundation, the three trainings, are associated with pure vows, Without them, the desired accomplishments cannot be attained. Conduct that knows the time is associated with the supreme, Without it, one cannot cross to the other side of samsara. Practice is associated with the confidence of self-arisen wisdom, Without it, the afflictions of grasping and the grasped cannot be cut off. Experience increases, enhancing the skill of training, Without it, the battle against afflictions cannot be turned back. The profound instructions are associated with all without bias, Without it, the desired purpose of what is needed will not be accomplished. Therefore, learn this meaning of the true essence. The teaching of the six main instructions: The main dwelling place is to rely on a secluded mountainside, Other than that, the suffering of the country is the cause. The main path is to carry the lama and the Buddha, Other than that, the signs of the path and dependent arising are mistaken. The main vow is to cherish whatever union, Other than that, separation will not accomplish the meaning. The main experience is to transform thoughts into wisdom, Other than that, the army of what is to be abandoned will not be cut down. The main concept is to reverse the attachment to samsara, Other than that, one will be lost to the power of this life. The main view is that the one who realizes is self-liberated, Other than that, one will not be liberated from the extremes of permanence and annihilation. These are precious treasures, hold them with respect. The teaching of the six dharmas that are accomplished effortlessly: If activities are abandoned, virtuous practice is effortlessly accomplished. If the three trainings are pure, the oath-bound ones effortlessly gather. If compassion is perfected,

Effort and diligence naturally accomplish; relying on practice, activities naturally accomplish; relaxing freely, the nature of reality is naturally seen; accomplishing the supreme, common accomplishments are naturally achieved. The six that are many, not becoming the six dharmas: If attachment does not turn back, there are many detours in between; if knowledge is not cultivated, there are many ordinary deaths; if antidotes are not relied upon, the three trainings are greatly ruined; if one does not listen and contemplate, meditation goes astray greatly; if cause and effect are confused, there are many falls into the lower realms; if busyness and demons disturb, practice is greatly deceived. Among the many, may you not lose your own nature. The six that conquer demons: Encouraging supplication, without distraction, do not invite the demon of laziness; training the mind to cherish others, do not invite the demon of self-interest; deciding on the nature of reality, do not invite the demon of doubt; practicing without bias, do not invite the demon of partiality; practicing the essential points, do not invite the demon of empty talk; realizing ultimate meaning, do not invite the demon of sectarianism. The six measures to be well established: Using cause and effect meticulously, the measure of great faith; fearing gossip, the measure of great shame; leading to qualities, the measure of good friends; the nature of mind free from objects, the measure of good meditation; not stealing merit and faults, the measure of complete practice; the three bodies on the path, the measure of bringing to the end. A person endowed with all these measures is the most excellent. The teachings on the six faults to be avoided: Having taken the three vows, do not bear faults and downfalls; abandoning the essential meaning, do not follow words; not practicing enlightenment, do not indulge in the eight worldly concerns; having obtained a human body, do not return empty-handed; having found profound meaning, do not enter into inferiority; being skilled in explaining the scriptures, do not be without practice. The six dharmas to be considered as faults in practice: If there are many obstacles, the wall of harmony is destroyed; if the intention does not turn back, rely on the mindstream without distraction; if compassion does not arise, look at yourself as an example; when blessings fade, generate faith and diligence; when harmers are many, purify extensively; if you want to benefit others, obtain bodhicitta and aspiration prayers. By doing so, you will be freed from the faults of wrongdoing. The six measures of the valid Dharma of practice: Having mastered the sutras and tantras, it is the measure of the teachings; the lineage is unbroken, it is the measure of the instructions; not entering into deviations, it is the measure of blessings; not mixing with dissimilar things, it is the measure of correctness.
