The aspect of knowledge. Wisdom is the wisdom that is not in equipoise, but the wisdom of hearing. If one possesses hearing, one will be delighted in vast wisdom, or rather, wanting to be clear and radiant, because hearing makes wisdom clear, so it is the aspect of wanting wisdom. Wisdom is the wisdom born of meditation, and because one is accustomed to and enters into it, it is the aspect of entering into wisdom. Regarding the Buddha's three vehicles of Dharma, listening without satisfaction, is the aspect of not being satisfied. For the sake of the heard Dharmas, or for the adornment and implements of the mind, etc., giving alms without fault, and also expanding it greatly, so it is the aspect of expanding giving. By cultivating antidotes, the senses such as the eyes enter into objects, and the afflictions are tamed. Like a clever horse that travels on the right path, traveling from the noble path to nirvana, so it is the aspect of being tamed and clever. From the virtuous friend, from beginning to end, holding many virtuous Dharmas, so it is the aspect of relying on much hearing. Regarding the Dharma and the speaker of Dharma, abandoning the disrespect of the three doors of body, speech, and mind, listening with respect, one will generate joy, pleasantness, and goodness, so it is the aspect of experiencing joy as an object of respect, or it is the aspect of delighting in respect. Through hearing, the mind is not disturbed, and one attains calm abiding. Therefore, the senses are not distracted by objects, and there is no distraction of discursive thoughts, the mind is at ease, and if the mind is at ease, the body is also at ease, so it is the aspect of bodily ease. Therefore, abandoning the faults of speech, speaking well and gently, the peace of speech will also arise. Through hearing, obtaining insight, eliminating doubt and hesitation, so it is the aspect of the mind being extremely joyful. The two faults of diligence are being too slow and too hasty, and discouragement. Separating from these two faults, listening without discouragement, is the aspect of listening without discouragement. The scripture to be explained, the limbs, are words, and listening to them is the aspect of listening to words or Dharma. What is to be attained, the nirvana accomplished by the noble path, is the meaning, and obtaining it by relying on hearing, so it is the aspect of listening to the meaning. From hearing arises the virtuous action of destroying all faults of non-action, so it is also said to be the aspect of listening to virtuous conduct. Diligently cultivating what is to be cultivated, such as the eightfold noble path, so it is the aspect of listening diligently. Furthermore, regarding what is said and taught by the Khenpos, Acharyas, and virtuous friends, abandoning the attachment of considering one's own view as supreme, as said

Listening as spoken is the aspect of listening to the teachings of others. The Dharma that is absent in other paths, as stated in the Sutras, has not been heard even a few times from beginningless samsara until now, and hearing it now is the aspect of listening to the Dharma that has not been heard. Possessing the four objects that please sentient beings, such as generosity, is the aspect of listening to the objects of gathering. Accomplishing the six types of direct perception, such as eye consciousness, is the aspect of listening to direct perception. Although listening to other vehicles, such as Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, gods, and humans, listening without generating desire for them is the aspect of not desiring other vehicles. Accomplishing and possessing the six paramitas, such as generosity, is the aspect of listening to the paramitas. Listening primarily to the extensive sections among the twelve divisions of scripture and having faith in them is the aspect of listening to the Bodhisattva Pitaka. Even small roots of virtue are increased immeasurably, and skillfully leading those who have not entered the teachings to enter, and maturing and liberating those who have entered, and listening with this skill is the aspect of listening with skillful means. Brahma is Nirvana, which has abandoned all sins. The cause of attaining it is its abiding place, which is the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness, and possessing this is the aspect of listening to the abiding place of Brahma. Bodhisattvas remember what should and should not be done, and knowing that all dharmas are without inherent existence is the aspect of listening to mindfulness and awareness. In conventional truth, external and internal dharmas arise through the power of dependent origination, and knowing that there is no self or agent, and being skilled in arising, is the aspect of listening to skill in arising. In ultimate truth, knowing the suchness that is free from arising, etc., is the aspect of skill in non-arising. As an antidote to attachment, contemplating a corpse abandoned in a charnel ground, from one day old to skeletal remains, is the aspect of ugliness. Pervading everything with loving-kindness that is free from hatred is the aspect of loving-kindness. Knowing that there is no other agent and that causes, conditions, and results are dependently originated is the aspect of dependent origination. Conditioned phenomena arise and do not remain for a second moment, is the aspect of impermanence. The nature of impermanence also serves as the basis for the three sufferings, is the aspect of suffering. All conditioned and unconditioned dharmas are without inherent existence, is the aspect of selflessness. Nirvana, the peace in which suffering and its origin are completely extinguished, is the aspect of peace.
