Although not explicitly stated (here), it is implied in the preceding and following contexts. The six difficult practices, namely patience, and the six unwavering in the face of conditions, are discussed in terms of both wisdom and diligence in that sutra. For example, the bodhisattva Good Hand being obstructed by a short spear, and some individuals hearing much, etc., all illustrate this. Cold and heat, hunger and thirst, harsh words and the path of harsh speech are all clearly evident. Toil and labor, such as the touch of a venomous snake, etc., the five, and the three intense sensations of the body all demonstrate this. Although giving away possessions and patience are not mentioned here, they are clearly indicated through meaning in the preceding and following contexts. Even sacrificing one's life to seek the Dharma is actually present in six ways, such as accumulating learning without being obstructed by a short spear, etc. In this way, one should fully rely on and venerate the meanings understood through hearing. The six special things to be done are discussed in terms of the meditation aspect of that sutra. For example, when he enters into samadhi, he closely places his mind on the object of all virtuous roots, and so on. Except for the second, the other five are directly stated. The second is the main teaching point of the meditation aspect, and therefore it is elevated through meaning. Accomplishing the six necessary things, although not directly apparent when Light Protector asks, in the twenty-first chapter of the Ratnakuta Sutra, the prophecy of the illusionist Good Man is given. These four good men are the essence of the Bodhisattvas' extensive learning. What are the four? Having heard, knowing the distinctions of the Dharma, this is its essence. Having heard, not doing what should not be done, this is its essence. Having heard, teaching others, this is its essence. Having heard, being liberated from that very meaning, such as directing it towards the Bodhi of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, this is its essence. These are the four. Good man, having seen these benefits, Bodhisattvas seek hearing, what are the four? Training the wisdom of oneself and others, cutting off the doubts that come from the four directions, upholding the sacred Dharma, and the inexhaustible praise of the Buddha, these are the four. Therefore, it is indicated through meaning that the last two are also included within the first five.

Here, it is made into six. Furthermore, in various sutras, these are shown in various ways, such as more or less, classifying and summarizing. The six seekings are: In the twenty-first chapter of the third fascicle of the Avatamsaka Sutra, it says, "O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the complete seeking of the Dharma. What are the ten? Thus, with a mind free from deceit and trickery, sincerely and completely seeking the Dharma," and so on. The six are actually present: unwavering diligence, not regarding body and life, not just hearing but practicing, and seeking with compassion endowed with bodhicitta. These four are only differentiated due to necessity, but in essence, they are included within the other six. Therefore, here they are shown condensed into six by means of key instructions. Thus, these twelve sets of six advantages and disadvantages are the profound key points of the key instructions for bodhisattvas to correctly gather the Dharma. If studied well, it is a wonderful way to combine the intentions of various sutras, and it is also helpful for the difficult points of these sutras, so it is very wonderful. If these sutras and this great treatise are combined and studied, one can gain entry into wisdom, so future individuals with the Dharma eye should study them well. The eighty-four aspects of listening are spoken of in the Sutra Requested by Inexhaustible Intelligence. That is, the three aspects that are in the sutra—not abandoning diligence, generating definite conviction in the Dharma, and the antidote to afflictions—are not here. The four aspects that are not in the sutra—generating reverence, serving diligently, being verbally peaceful, and listening skillfully—are here. In the sutra, the aspect of good deeds and the aspect of non-regret are counted separately, but here the aspect of the action of good deeds and non-regret are counted as one, but otherwise everything else is the same. In general, in the Indian Sanskrit versions, there are also cases of more or less, similar or different, which are said by the scholars of the Indian land. These kinds of topics were also composed from the mind of the omniscient great one himself, and they are the same as the special Sanskrit versions, so they were left without being newly modified. The meaning of these, if summarized and explained according to Vasubandhu's commentary on the Sutra of Inexhaustible Intelligence, is that from how to listen to the Dharma and the qualities obtained from listening to the Dharma, eighty-four aspects are spoken of.
