Because neither existence nor non-existence is free from arising. If it is existence, it should not arise because it has already arisen. If it is non-existence, it cannot become existence because it contradicts existence. Fourth, the object of knowledge (chos can), is not established as real, because it cannot perform a function. A moment cannot perform a function, because it ceases when it is about to perform a function. It cannot perform it gradually, because permanence and momentariness are mutually contradictory. Fifth, mere appearance (snang tsam chos can), is not established as real, because it is dependent origination, like an image. If a real thing were established by its own nature, it would not arise dependently, because it is already established as real. That which arises dependently is pervaded by emptiness. Just as a magical horse and cow are empty of horse and cow from the moment they appear, so too, without being established in either subtle or gross form, this unfailing appearance due to the mere aggregation of causes and conditions is also appearing while being empty. If examined, it is not established anywhere, and no place for affirmation can be found. Furthermore, the three reasons for negating the four characteristics of permanence, destruction, change, and non-change are as follows: First, mere appearance is not real, because it is neither destructible nor indestructible. If a pot were destructible, it would have to be destroyed either when it exists or when it does not exist. It is not destroyed when it exists, because it is the opposite of destruction. When it does not exist, there is nothing to destroy. Nor is it indestructible or permanent, because it has become the nature of a moment. Second, mere appearance is not real, because it is neither changing nor unchanging. If a real thing were to change temporarily, then an old person would become young, and in which state, permanent or impermanent, would the change itself exist? Moreover, it is not established by analyzing its parts. If it does not change, then it is impossible for a young person to become old. Third, if the four, birth, aging, abiding, and decay, occur sequentially, then they are not complete in a single moment. If they occur simultaneously, then birth and death, old age and youth occur together, and so on, which is harmful because contradictory things gather together, as explained in the context of the Hearers (Shravakas). Thus, with the wisdom that ascertains that all phenomena are without inherent existence, one cuts off all the elaborations of grasping at characteristics aimed at in all activities, and abides in equanimity. Even so, without obstructing the way things appear in conventional truth, the basis is the Two Truths of Madhyamaka, the path is Madhyamaka.

The Two Truths: The result of Madhyamaka is considered to be the union of the two kayas. Firstly, the conventional is the object of the mind, and the ultimate is the object of self-awareness separate from the mind. Both of these are merely without inherent existence. The definition is that the conventional appears without inherent existence and does not deceive in the face of delusion. The ultimate is the meaning to be sought and is established as truth because it does not deceive in the Dharma of the path and the result. The characteristics are that the conventional is a phenomenon that does not go beyond the object of the mind and cannot withstand analysis. The ultimate is the nature of phenomena that transcends the object of the mind, and its object is pacified. It is unreasonable to withstand analysis because it has already been refuted. Neither of these is established separately in reality. Dharma and the nature of Dharma are equal and are the nature of being beyond elaboration, abiding in being devoid of mind and characteristics. The classification is established as the two truths of conventional and ultimate. Among these, in accordance with worldly terminology, the appearance of forms, etc., to the objects of the six unimpaired senses is the correct conventional, and the appearance of hair, etc., to the objects of the impaired senses is the false conventional. The Madhyamaka path is the practice of the six perfections in the conventional and the meditation on the union of non-elaboration and clear light wisdom in the ultimate. The method of establishing this during the practice of meditative equipoise is to sit in the lotus position on a comfortable seat, first generate refuge and bodhicitta, relax the mind, and in a state of not thinking anything or discriminating anything, as determined by the view, clearly, serenely, without distraction, and without scattering or gathering, the grasping of external objects and internal mind is abandoned, and there is no affirmation or negation in the mind of meditation, so all objects are pacified, and the activity of mind and mental factors is pacified. In non-elaboration, awareness is the meaning of the clear light wisdom of self-awareness, and this is how to meditate. In the post-meditation, in the state of illusion, dedicate the merit for the benefit of sentient beings, and without attachment, engage in virtuous actions to accumulate merit. The result of Madhyamaka is that at the end of the ten bhumis, the cause of samsara, the habitual tendencies of mind and mental factors, together with consciousness, are pacified and dissolved into the Dharmadhatu. Wisdom and Dharmadhatu are inseparable, which is the Dharmakaya. From this, the two form kayas arise spontaneously, benefiting and bringing happiness to sentient beings as long as samsara exists. Here, the Prasangikas acknowledge
