It is merely the nature of knowing. Because of clarity and awareness, it is believed to be like experiencing pleasure and pain. That system also has three internal divisions: distinct aspects of consciousness, numerous aspects, and diverse non-duality. The first, the appearance of external objects such as mountains is consciousness, but the consciousness of the apprehended aspect and the apprehending aspect are different, just as when a boiled egg is dry, the yolk and white are separate. It is believed that the consciousness of blue appearance and blue grasping are directly divided into two parts as real, so it is also called half an egg. The second, just as one can distinguish how many aspects, the grasping consciousness also has that many abilities, so it is believed that knowing the five fingers as five real entities, not as one, therefore it is impossible for two aspects to appear in one consciousness. The third, it is believed that various appearances such as blue and yellow, although appearing in one consciousness, are real as the nature of one consciousness. If one proves that external objects are consciousness by the sign of clarity and awareness, then the object of knowledge itself, and merely being knowable, are also included in the existence of external objects, thus it is with doubt. Moreover, that clear and aware consciousness is what is to be proven, so it cannot be established. If it is said that when the knowable and the knowing exist simultaneously, the connection is negated, and when they do not exist simultaneously, the similarity is also excluded, thus it is established as the clear awareness of consciousness, then although this establishes that external objects are false, it does not establish that it is the same as the true consciousness, just as an image negates being an object, but does not establish being a mirror. Furthermore, if it is like half an egg, if the external object is false, then the consciousness that is the same as it should also be false, and if it is real, then it should also be established in things as it appears. If there is a consciousness that appears as an external object different from the internal grasping consciousness, then it would follow that consciousness would dissipate outward from the body, and that the mind would have colors, etc., and that mountains, etc., could in turn recognize, and that like the number of various appearances, there would be a possibility of a very large number of consciousnesses existing simultaneously in one continuum, because this would cause harm, because consciousness is established as real, and each external object appearance is one consciousness. Regarding the equality of the number of apprehended and apprehending, like seeing something mottled, the gross appearance of seeing various colors at the same time would be interrupted, because each consciousness is different, and that is truly established. Because there is no other in the nature of each thing, it is like the thoughts in the continuum of many people.

Therefore, although the consciousness that appears in various ways is not one, there is no true establishment in the various different ones, so consciousness appears as many simultaneously. Although the various are like non-duality, if the term "one" is used while appearing as many, then the names of the many, such as the five colors, will be interrupted, because there is no other way to establish them other than appearing as many. Therefore, for the eye consciousness that sees variegated colors, only the name "one consciousness" is allowed, but because it is established on many, it is because of the point that it is not truly existent alone. Therefore, if one establishes it differently from how it appears, there is another fault: Buddhas and sentient beings will become one continuum, because the mind-stream of sentient beings appears clearly to the Buddhas; and if it appears as other, and is also truly other, then burning fire is also truly water, etc., everything will become everything, which is too extreme. Therefore, if analyzed ultimately, because neither the object nor the consciousness are truly established, objects and consciousness can appear as self and other in various ways, but one should know that they are not established as such in reality, which is the key point. Secondly, the proponents of false appearances, such as Master Dharmapala, etc., believe that all appearances are neither objects nor consciousness, but due to the delusion of ignorance, they are merely clear appearances that are non-existent, like hairs in the sky. Like a clear crystal ball, consciousness is considered to be without form. To this, those who speak with defilements say that in the state of mind, all eight consciousnesses exist in ultimate truth, and in the state of Buddhahood, the environment and beings also appear clearly, so although form does not exist in its nature, it does not disappear. Those who are without defilements or pure believe that in the state of mind, the seven collections are temporary, sudden consciousnesses, which are conventional truths; the alaya consciousness has no increase or decrease, and no difference in the way it grasps, so its ultimate nature is called primordial consciousness, which is the ultimate truth; in the state of Buddhahood, because the habitual tendencies are exhausted, just as the appearance of a dream ceases when one awakens, nothing appears other than the mind, and the mind is separated from all forms, experiencing without any conceptualization, merely abiding in a state of self-awareness and self-illumination, which is the Dharmakaya; due to the blessing of the Dharmakaya, although things themselves do not exist, they appear to disciples as omniscient, teaching the Dharma, and accomplishing the benefit of others, which is the Rupakaya. To this, they believe that the appearance of objects...
