That is, because in the object of apprehension of conceptual thought, the clarity of appearance would be interrupted, and also in one conceptual thought, it is not permissible to appear as a single thing with various parts, because these two are the same, and also the subtle appearance itself is prevented. In the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says: If one accepts various kinds of consciousness according to the number of aspects, then it will be difficult to avoid the analysis that is similar to atoms. Thus it is said. It is also not permissible for various things to be true in a non-dual way, just as the general prohibition of things appearing as many to be true as one. In the Two Truths, it says: For the things that appear as various, if it is not reasonable to be one, then how can the mind that appears as various be one? Thus it is said. If, while appearing as many, one calls it "one", then the establishment of various things such as five fingers, sun, moon, planets, and stars will be interrupted, because in that very text it says: Otherwise, in the nature of one thing, how can the ways of appearing as many be true? Because oneness is lost, and other things also lose themselves. Thus it is said. Then, you will also face the fault of losing the establishment of things and non-things, because the five aggregates clearly appear as things, but are called emptiness. If you ask this, then for anything, there is no appearance that can withstand analysis, and only on the illusory appearance is the name of things fabricated. In that very text it says: If analyzed by reason, it is not a thing, other than that it is a thing, how can things and non-things contradict each other? Thus it is said. If it is determined as the nature of consciousness, then when things appear to the eye consciousness, it will necessarily be determined as the nature of consciousness, because the reason for clarity and attachment when the nature appears is not grasped, just like pleasure and pain. Clarity and attachment are established by direct perception, and the nature has been acknowledged. It is also unreasonable to think that "the aspect appears as a thing, so the consciousness is not clear, like a moment of blue", just like memory and direct perception, for the clear eye consciousness, the unclear appearance of things cannot be one entity. In the Treatise on Valid Determination, it says: Because the thing is not seen directly, it is not one. Because the difference between consciousness and thing is not seen, it will necessarily be determined as without difference. Thus it is said. If it is too clear, then all beings will become one continuum, because the mind continuum of beings can appear to the Buddha, and only the grasper and the grasped are the same. What is too extreme is

If something appears as other but is truly other, it would be like the southern fire being truly the northern flood. Like the materialists, the mind itself would be truly external objects. Like the Samkhyas, happiness and suffering themselves would be truly material. Ignorance would be truly wisdom, and happiness would be truly suffering, because the reasons are the same. The Mother Sutra says, "There is no consciousness, and it is not discernible." Therefore, to realize that things are true as they appear is true. To think that something appears as other but is truly other is blindness. The Ornament of the Sutras says, "Who does not see what exists but sees what does not exist? What is such darkness like?" In this way, we refute those who think that appearances are mind and those deluded ones who say that all beings are one mindstream. We believe that in the appearance of delusion, it is only the dependent origination that appears as it is. We do not believe that anything is truly real, either mind or anything other than mind, just like in a dream. Regarding the Vijnanavada, we will first state their view: Teachers like Dharmakirti believe that all appearances of other-knowing are neither objects nor consciousness, but are merely conceptual constructs that appear due to being obscured by ignorance. The Determination of Validity says, "Objects and subjects are not different, like the differences in consciousness of hair, etc. When the characteristics of grasping and being grasped are distinguished, their nature is completely obscured. Just as it is seen by delusion, so this is established. At that time, the characteristics of grasping and being grasped should not be debated." Therefore, for all appearances, even in conventional truth, there is no possibility of being real. The realm of dreams and the arising of various appearances, and the appearances of direct perception, have no difference at all, but due to the stability or instability of habits, appearances seem to be long or short, and true or false. Thus, the external apprehended object is a false appearance, and the grasping of it is not established. The moment of self-luminous awareness that realizes the non-duality of grasper and grasped is also considered to exist in ultimate truth. There are two distinctions: with defilements and pure. The difference between the two is the difference between the causal time and the resultant time. Those with defilements believe that during the time of sentient beings, all eight aggregates of consciousness exist in ultimate truth, and at the moment of enlightenment, all vessels and contents will appear clearly.
