All these phenomena are the mind's things, are impermanent, and are solely other-powered. The imputed nature refers to clinging to that as self. Here, regarding their Mind-Only view, there are three distinctions: cognitions are separate, the number of aspects is numerous, and diverse but non-dual. The first view is that some people think that the appearance of things like mountains is itself cognition, but because the cognition that appears as the object of apprehension and the object of clinging are different entities, just as when a boiled egg dries, the yellow and white exist directly, the blue appearance and the cognition that apprehends blue are directly and truly divided into two parts. The second view is that some people think that just as one can distinguish how many aspects there are, cognition can also distinguish how many aspects there are, so the cognition that knows five fingers truly exists as five entities, and it is impossible for one cognition to perceive two aspects, such as not knowing one entity. The third view is that all appearances, such as blue, yellow, stable, and moving, appear in one cognition, and the essence is true, but although they appear as many collections, they are considered to be the appearance of the same cognition. The refutation of these views is divided into two points: there is no reason for establishment, and there is harm. First, for the sign of "clear and cognitive," is its meaning the knowable or merely the act of cognition? The statement that "appearance is cognition because it is knowable" and "because it is merely knowable" is not established in its pervasiveness, because there is a doubt that the object itself is also cognized, so there is doubt about the reverse. That is simultaneous, and because there is no connection, it cannot be cognized, and because it blocks things that are not simultaneous, it cannot be cognized. Therefore, it cannot be said that it is excluded on the inconsistent side, because even if the object itself is excluded, the object of apprehension, which is non-thing, is not excluded, so it cannot be established as the essence of cognition, just as excluding the source of the image cannot establish it as a mirror. There are five harms: it is unreasonable to be delusion and non-delusion, it is unreasonable to be one and many, it will necessarily become the essence of cognition, it will necessarily become clear, and it is too extreme. First, in the world, the appearance of false, non-things is considered delusion, like the cognition in a dream. The appearance of things themselves is considered non-delusion, like the cognition of being awake or clinging to one moon. Therefore, blue and other phenomena are not mind, because they appear as things. If pervasiveness does not exist, then things

Is appearing as existent an illusion or not an illusion? If it is not an illusion, then it cannot be the mind, because all non-illusions hold onto that object as it is, therefore the appearance of the object itself is true in the reality of things. If it is an illusion, then it is not suitable to be the mind, because the appearance of the object is false, and what is false is non-existent, therefore, since only the thing is refuted, the thing of the mind cannot exist. Even if only the thing does not exist, it can be the object of consciousness, then it is like not asking for a pot but asking for a golden pot. If we say that we have no illusion, because everything appears as the thing of consciousness itself. However, it is not right to wander in samsara because of examining the meaning. If the meaningless appearing as meaningful is not an illusion, then examining the meaningless as meaningful will not become an illusion, therefore it will become the fault of the illusion being interrupted. We do not establish illusion or non-illusion by whether things appear or do not appear, but we establish it by whether the form of holding conforms to or does not conform to the meaning, which is also unreasonable. If the form of the vase and so on exists as it appears, it will become non-illusion, and if it does not exist, the non-existence itself is not suitable for anything to become a thing. It is unreasonable in one and other, because it is not right for consciousness and form to be true separately, because not knowing the object does not have the characteristic of consciousness, and when the name consciousness comes out of the body, it will become the fault of death, and the mind will become visible to the eye and can be measured by a scale, and mountains and trees etc. will turn around and recognize themselves, because they recognize those themselves. If there is no pervasion, the mountains etc. being their own consciousness will disappear. Two consciousnesses at the same time on one continuum will become the fault of possibility. That is also because it is thought that each object appearance is consciousness, so at the same time, hundreds of thousands of consciousnesses on one continuum will also become possible. If you admit it, it is impossible, because it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: Two conceptual thoughts do not arise simultaneously. It is also not right to have as many forms as there are numbers, because when you see the foot, you do not see the hand, therefore the coarse appearance will be interrupted, and when you see the blue of the silk and do not see the yellow, therefore the variegated appearance will be interrupted, and it is impossible for dust and other things to have no parts, therefore dust cannot be seen, therefore just seeing will also become the fault of being interrupted. The coarse appearance is also examined by conceptual thought, which is also not right.
